Getting duplicate keys?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Justine Rogers, Aug 29, 2004.

  1. Being an idiot, I managed to lose the only copy of my bike keys (*1).
Is there a way to get duplicates cut or do I have to get a new ignition
    barrel?

*1 The perfect end to a mostly garbage week.

  2. Pop into your local dealer - they *should* be able to get a key if they
are told the VIN number (frame number) and reg no.

Justine Rogers was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
A good locksmith can cut keys to the barrel even if there is no key
number available. That's how I got new keys for the ShiteOldRover and
the Bimota after the burglar nicked all my keys. Not cheap though, and
depending on the bike it *may* be cheaper to get a new barrel and
keys. That said, on a lot of locks the key number is stamped onto the
    barrel.

However if you've got some immobilisier dooda integrated into the key
and/or barrel (Honda HISS comes to mind) youse are stuffed.

I can give you the number of the guys who did my keys if a locksmith
    in North London would help...

IIRC, SP managed to get a key cut for her 400 earlier this year by
taking the barrel to a locksmith.

Doesn't time fly Richard? That was last year! The 400 now resides
darn sarf somewhere doing racing things, along with the newly-cut key
and the original I found about 2 months after getting the key cut..
