Yeah; I didn't really make that clear first posts.
(and the respondents only had the info I supplied)
Not quite sure I'm getting the point but I didn't accelerate until I saw his
brake-lights come on. (Which was a bit awkward as the exit-ramp has a 60
limit and I didn't really wanna' be doing 90-odd as I hit it!)

A little. Bent bullbar, bent door, some panel and bumper damage.
Driveable except the wheel rubs on a mudguard.

All will be well soon enough.

The other car would be a write-off. I only saw it from the front and
couldn't tell you what it was.

But if you can't tell us what it was how do you know it was a write off ?
Sorry couldn't help that. Commiserations on getting hit tho.

Trust me. It isn't a fixer upper.

No one was hurt. (If I had been moving just a little bit more slowly,
I'd have hit his passenger door, and I doubt his passenger would have
    survived without some permanent damage.)

If the idiot hadn't told his insurance company he "wasn't sure" he
didn't have a green turn arrow, I'd probably be back on the road by now.

If there hadn't been a convenient red light camera right there, I'd be
posting a quite different tale about now.

    Moike

(on the bright side, it meant I had to get the bike out to get to work
and so I've found a couple of little problems that need to be fixed
before I hit the Tassie ferry in a couple of weeks.)

If you didn't go through the red light, and you didn't get a ticket, how
can you _prove_ that you didn't go through the red light?

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

This means I will never be able to prove that I was not instrumental in
certain 9/11 activities (even the ones I can remember being a part of, like
going to bed at my usual time etc etc and missing the whole spectacle till
the next morning)....... or the America's Cup victory in 1983-4?....or the
    Milperra Massacre.......invasion of Poland....mummification of
Tutankhamen.... oh dear..... poop, should I be cringing and admitting mea
culpa to all this crap coz I have no contrary proof......???

betty, was it ME who went
    through Moike's red light???
    Damn this memory iSSue!

For $7.50 Vicroads will send you a list of all your demerit offences for
the past 5 years. NRMA accept that as sufficient evidence to show you
    could roll them in court.

So if you get the fine, you ask a friend or relative to agree to accept
that they were driving the vehicle at the time, Vicroads will withdraw
the ticket on your say-so and re-issue the ticket to them, and thus
_prove_ that you didn't go through the red light. Nice.

or.. you don't pay the fine and they start court proceedings against you
and you pay the fine in 6 months time, before it goes to court, by which
time you have accrued a few extra dollars in late fees,

or.. you elect to dispute the ticket in court and it takes the legal
process a good 6-12 months to set you a date, and if you choose you pay
it in the meanwhile, probably incur some extra fees,

In any of the above scenarios, you can provide the insurance company
with a report showing that you have not incurred a fine or points for
that red-light camera offence.. unless the insurance company drags out
the settlement for longer than a few months. (AFAIK Points are not
recorded against your license unless either you pay the fine or the
    court makes an order)

(and as for the $7.50 and they send you a licence report.. I ordered one
in mid-January, paid via credit card. by early February it hadn't
arrived. I emailed them and asked where it was.. got a form response.
Late February it hadn't arrived, I emailed again, this time they replied
with an agreement to my demand to refund my money. Early April I
emailed and asked them if they were actually ever going to do either of
the above mentioned things. Last week I got a call from them
apologising and promising to follow it up with the highest urgency.
Still no letter, still no refund on my credit card...

So don't hold your breath. It's the 3rd time in the past 12 years I've
ordered a driver's report from Vicroads. Twice just for curiosity sake
and he only time I actually needed it (on request from insurance
company) the insurance company had sent me a follow-up letter to me
demanding to see it before VicRoads got around to sending it to me.

OK, but don't tell NRMA. I didn't go through a red light, but I don't
    have any other evidence.
That's odd. I've had three in recent times, and all have arrived within
    three working days.

Hehehe, same everywhere, only the department name changes.
I wrote to the Dept of Planning and Infrasructure (WA's licencing mob)
attaching their form to get a common renewal date for all our vehicles. Got
    a response last Wednesday.
"Dear Sir, In response to your letter received Feb 19........"

We could have traded in a couple of cars since then.

Is woose the same as wuss?
I normally accelerate past these situations, a bike should be able to
accelerate the length of a car faster than it can change lanes.
I find that being an arsehole doesn't help. Most drivers innocently don't
see riders, being a wanker just reaffirms to them that riders are probably
fuckwits and deserve to get runover. Ignoring them should at least leave
them feeling a little bit guilty about their trangression.
FWIW I had a bingle this week in the car in a similar situation. Some clown
in a 4WD was entering the main road from an on ramp. I'm on the main road,
and as the cars streamed onto the road in front of me from the on ramp there
were two cars, then a gap. I slowed to allow the two cars in then
accelerated to regular speed into the gap. A third 4WD further back thought
he'd like to try and make the same gap but failed. Instead of slipping in
behind me he accelerated then just ran right into the side of me. Being a
minor bingle I had a bit of a laugh thinking what a dickhead for trying to
squeeze his big tub o lard 4WD into a non existent gap.
I don't care too much about my car and it's insured, but boy was this guy
pissed. **** you you fucking ****! You fucking useless ****! He screamed. I
just smirked knowing full well he was completely in the wrong. He started
going off, you ****, you get your fucking license in a weetbix packet you
fucking ****. I stood there calmly and asked for his details, he was was
about half my size and about twice my age. I was confident that he was just
    talk.
The abuse kept coming but I ignored it mostly, in the end I quietly asked if
he wanted a punch in the head, quite immature I know but I just wanted him
to know that talk is cheap and he has a fair opportunity to escalate it if
he wished.. As expected that was the end of it. He leaves the experience
with his tail between his legs and few hundred dollars poorer and I get my
    car cleaned for free.

So you accellerated but the "tub o lard" 4WD was still faster and came from
behind you to get along-side and blindly crash into you did he? (And you
didn't see that he was there?)
    Yeah suuuure that's what happened.

    Here we go again...

    I never said I didn't see him.
The NSW Road Rules are quite clear about merging traffic,. Without dividing
lines, the vehicle in front has right of way, with lines, the vehicle
currently occupying the lane has right of way.
In both cases he is in the wrong. In this case there are lines so he has
    absolutely no excuse.

So you saw him but still delliberately collided?!!?
Now I know you're making it up!

    Moike Guest

Not necessarily. I saw the bloke that ran into me a few weeks ago. I
just didn't expect him to keep coming, and where he hit me was only a
couple of feet from where I had expected him to stop. I certainly
    didn't hit him deliberately.

Do you deliberately make up stuff just to have an argument?
Where did I say it was deliberate? You saw the car in your story, did you
deliberately let him change lanes into you?
On a bike you have a bit more room to move when a car changes lanes into
you. In a car the distance between collision is only a few inches.
