  1. being as it was a nice day, I thought I'd haul the bike out of the shed and
    see if it still runs...

kicked the kickstart quite a bit, and also tried pushing it down the yard,
to little effect (yard's dead flat) so I thought sod this.

dug around in the shed and found the electric starter, fitted same, dug
around some more and found the switch, went and looked up which wires to
connect where, connected it all up. dead as a dodo.

    hmmm.

looked more at the wiring diagram. aha. starter relay. found that and
looked at it, after a bit noticed that the trigger wire was on the wrong
terminal, which of course with the switch missing made no difference. put
it on the right terminal and it worked. bike turning over, battery mostly
    flat.

fetched spare tractor battery and jump leads. Now *thats* what I call
turning over... after a few seconds, it fired up on the right pot, and after
a bit more, the left one decided to play as well. Ran it for a bit, shut
off, put all miscellaneous bits back on and now it'll (just) fire off its
    own battery.

will give it some exercise this afternoon.

  4. eh? whassat? wasn't any bodgery, to speak of. standard parts, all of 'em.
never saw the need to fit 'em before.

have you seen the beast? it's on the web somewhere...

http://www.ddol-las.fsnet.co.uk/boxer should work, the thumbnails are crap
but the pages were only knocked together in about half an hour.

    still no progressive springs, though...

Is that a piece of galvanized sheet metal under the seat? Now THAT'S a
    bodge!
Get that piece of roofing metal out of there and make a proper piece from
    aluminum.

  6. roofing metal? I'll have you know that's a high quality off-cut from the
panelling on a trailer. Can't quite remember why it's there, I'm sure there
was a reason at the time. Makes a handy place to rest tools and stuff when
    working on it.

  8. got 'em, what it really needs is the controls sorting to be able to ride on
    'em.

not sure if they're on the pictures, I put the pillion pegs back on it so as
to be able to use 'em as alternatives.

ran OK down to the caff yesterday too. and it'll start on the button, once
it's been run a bit to charge the battery :)
