    Some good ales as well.
There are some, IME, very few wines that go well with curry.

One I am particularly partial to is a demi-sec Touraine-Amboise rose.
Somehow, it just works with spicy food.

Possibly. The discussion in question [1] concerned whether a Hebrew word
could be written using the Latin alphabet. I said it could, my
    interlocutor disagreed.

I prevailed, of course. Well, obviously.

[1] google 'kippa', 'french word' on alt.activism.death-penalty if you're

It's not just adopting it. Many words which have existed in English for
years, still maintain their foreign plurals (_cf_ 'bureau' &c...).

Good for you, but that wasn't my question. Could you do my job? Could you
teach English and French in an almost entirely Hebrew-speaking environment?

Why ever would I want to ?

I'm a physics graduate, I wouldn't want to teach that either

There's much more out there for those that can

That you can't must be at the root of your insecurity and obsession with
    trying to prove yourself

That's not the point. You said, 'those that can't, teach..'. If I'm one
of those who 'can't', then how can I 'do'?

    It is absolutely the point

Language is, when you cut all the crap, just a set of rules which can be
acquired by book learning, no imagination or innovation required

To me its a communication tool

If I use the word "autobahns" in the UK, everyone understands that I
mean more than one german motorway. If I said "autobahnen", they
    wouldn't.

The former conveys meaning in english, the second doesn't

It gets the meaning across - that is the bottom line

You seem incapable of grasping this simple concept

It works the other way. In german, I would say "Ich habe es gefaxed" the
english word "faxed" with the past tense given by a german prefix.

    You don't

you just spend your time being a victim and picking holes in what
everyone else says to give yourself a feeling of self importance

In the days of licensing hours, there was a pub in Heysham (th e Golden
Ball(?) ) which would get cut off at high tide

    Best of all worlds

In my defence, I'd just got back from the pub. Ok, the case for the
prosecution says that is almost always the case, but that simply makes
    me an habitual offender :-(

Savignon blanc with hot curry like Madras - a Touraine one would be good e.g.
    http://www.marksandspencer.com/Château-Roche-Touraine-Sauvignon-Blanc/dp/B0027IYLKS

For more aromatic, spicy food like Chinese try a gewurztraminer e.g.
    http://www.tesco.com/wine/product/details/default.aspx?N=8130+4294967114&id=255242196
or this one from Conch y Toro in Chile is quite good and sometimes
    reduced to below a fiver

Not sure what the grape is on the one I buy. If I remember, I'll have a
    look.
I have yet to find a gewurztraminer that I enjoy.

Strangely, Chambers doesn't give it as Hebrew; it gives the origin
as "Judaism", which doesn't equate to Hebrew when I compare their two
    entries.

You'll probably like this; whilst looking up the above in Ch I came upon:

cab(2) - n an ancient Hebrew measure of capacity equal to approx 1.6 litres
    (about three pints).

    So, a lightweight then... <gd&r>
