German autobahns?

    Yep, still use hoover too

Its the T I would object to in ATM, cashier would be the normal term in the
    UK I would have thought.

    Cash machine anybody?

Anyway, my original point was that as soon as a word gets borrowed by a
language then it is perfectly legitimate to use the plural form customary in
that language, so, writing in English on an English language forum then
autobahns is a better choice than autobahnen. Same with pronunciation IMO.
When speaking English then VW cars are Volkswagens or Vee Dub and not
Folksvargen or Fow Vay (if you can see through my virtual spelling).
It all started with Angela Rippon and her nightly (different) renditions of
Buenos Aires if you ask me.
Long live Anglicised spelling and pronunciation YKIMS.

Sure. Or cashpoint, if speaking. But when typing ATM is only three
    letters.

Really? So the plural of 'nebula' is 'nebulas', then (and not 'nebulæ')?
And the plural of 'appendix' is 'appendixes' (and not 'appendices')? And
the plural of 'matrix' is 'matrixes' (and not 'matrices')? And the plural
of 'crisis' is 'crisises' (and not 'crices')? And the plural of 'datum' is
'datums' (and not 'data')? And the plural of 'alumnus' is 'alumnuses' (and
    not 'alumnæ')?

I could go on but, erm, I believe you've got the idea...

Those plural forms are customary in English,
I would dispute the data one though, how many IT people ( or normal people
for that matter ) refer to *these* data instead of *this* data?

Erm, they are Latin and Greek plurals. Despite the fact that the word is
far more 'integrated' into English than is 'Autobahn', those words still
retain their original foreign pluralisation. The same as 'gâteaux',
'châteaux', 'bureaux', etc (although the first and second-named tend to
lose the circumflex in most uses in English). If they haven't taken
English plural forms, what chance does 'Autobahn' which is surely a word
far less familiar to most people?
    Erm, I do. Always.

Anyway, **** this. It's not important.

I'm one of the unusual here in the States. I stay as far right on the
road as I can tolerate. Don't tell anyone, but it's commonly the
fastest lane of the bunch. All the motoring morons move left and camp.
