  1. Waste of time. What you want is a plate flipper. Google will bring up
    some results.

I'm broadly in agreement but I take some steps in advance to improve the
odds and when it does go pete tong I go to war rather than taking it lying
    down

Possibly even one secured with velcro and a non broken one under the
seat or in a bag maybe for that quick change.

and then if they look under the seat one is under an Attempt to Pervert

Quite. You need the broken part under the seat, & a ?20 note in your
pocket (given to you by the person who hit you lightly from behind at a
junction earlier in the day, breaking the plate). You also need to keep
    the broken edges clean.

I've been doing that for years. I've been pulled twice and both times just
been told to "Get it fixed"

An old friend of mine used to have a "mud flap" tagged onto his no. plate
which flipped up at anything about 30ish mph. He got stopped by a Plodmobile
on the motorway and they asked him to remove it. No charges and although he
removed it, it soon went back on.

There are a few ways to get around the numberplate being viewed which don't
end up with a "Perverting" charge and they're cheaper than the Ebay ones
    too.

    <snip>

When we went to the Bol... in 99... Simon Batey had a Welsh dragon or
similar on a piece of light plastic (like an L plate size). This
would flip up and cover his numberplate. The French police had a chat
about it with him on the motorway but that was it.
