Gees - I thought I'd seen enough speed cameras...

....until I drove in and around London last week. Those poor buggers have
millions of big yellow boxes up their asses, everywhere you look just
waiting to nail you for serious pounds. Sydney is bad enough but there are
parts of London where there would be 4 to 5 cameras in a 1 mile stretch.
The same on their highways and arteries - astounding and for me, was a huge
distraction from the job of just driving and getting used to different
    signs/speeds/traffic lights etc.

Having arrived home in Oz yesterday, I can only sit and await the news of my
transgressions. Thankfully the hire car place only had a Mini Cooper and
not the "S" model I had previously ordered or I'd have to sell up to pay the
fines or disappear off to Thailand. :) Normally I would prefer to travel
by bike but I'm sure that within a couple of hours, my Blackbird and I would
    be impounded indefinitely.

BTW - has anyone driven through Wales? I would struggle to imagine a more
completely immersing driving/riding experience than the 2 days I had in
Snowdonia (mid-north Wales). Untold road variety - narrow twisty lanes with
hedges, long sweeping curves across rolling hills and very tight and narrow
coastal roads with rock walls - speed at your own peril. Well, um...
errr... it was hard not to get up it, so to speak, and thankfully I survived
    a rather 'spirited' 2,000km.

For a relatively inexpensive and highly entertaining road experience, I
couldn't more highly recommend the Welsh countryside - and far less cameras
than in the UK. In a few months I'm going to return and try out the north
of England - the lakes district and then head up to drive around Scotland
for a few weeks. Should be interesting in winter.

    Cheers,
    Dave E (Sydney)

  2. Yeah - it's insane innit? Doesn't seem to slow Jeffles down though.
Dunno how many speeding infringements he ignores though, but he was
rarely under the speed limit [1]

    Cheers

[1] That is a lie, orrificer.

I might just have to seek some evasion advice... will inform. :-|

"I was just going with the flow awficer, like we do in Ostrailia." Stupidly
I used the same hire car company (Avis) I use with my work every other week
here in Oz. Touch wood - I didn't see any obvious flashes, but I did get an
80 pound parking fine in Islington - slept in after a fairly big night on
    the piss...

    Cheers,
    Dave

On the upside, isn't it nice how everyone knows how to keep left on
the motorways, and traffic (between speed cameras) in the fast lane
flows along at at nice 80-90 mph ?

(Except once you get off the A roads, since no-one in the UK has any
idea about distance driving, finding room to overtake is damn near
    impossible.)

Don't be silly, Dave, all round Scotland should only take you about 9

The answer is a Road Angel. All Gatsos are logged in them and they warn you
    of nearby cameras.

Well, I'll be buggered, there was me thinking that the answer was to
drive at or under the speed limit!

Improved it as in it increased? Or improved it as in the toll went down?
FFS MB I'd hate to have you be a defense lawyer.
    Good police doublespeak though ;)
