Gear Change Difficulty

Discussion in 'Motorbike Technical Discussion' started by Alasdair Baxter, Aug 9, 2004.

  1. I ride a 1995 Honda CB Two-Fifty (not the Superdream) and I am having
a great deal of difficulty changing gears once the engine has got hot.
When I start off from cold, there is no problem till I have gone a
    couple of miles.

Although I pull the clutch right in, I have to use quite a bit of
force on the lever to enter the gear and if I want to select neutral,
it's almost impossible. To get into neutral from first, I have to
pull in the clutch and push the bike forward with my feet on the
ground and then it slips in.

I have tried adjusting the clutch lever but to no avail.

I have even thought of having a hydraulic clutch mechanism fitted if
this is possible although if possible, I suspect it will be extremely
    expensive.

Any offers of help or advice please?

Well it's almost definitely clutch drag. I would check out the clutch
release mechanism inside the primary case. If you need to disassemble
the clutch you will probably need a special spanner to undo the slotted
nut that holds everything together. I'm basing this on my knowledge of
the CM250 which uses the same engine.
