Gatso question.

I'm driving down a road in Grays, Essex today, lets say at slightly over
the speed limit and heading west. There's a Gatso on the other side of
the road that is obviously set up to trigger speeding vehicles heading
east. Between the two lanes is a solid white line boxed chevron area
about 4 feet wide. The only datum lines in the road are on the nearside
of the lane that heads east, they aren't anywhere near the lane I am in,
in fact they are about 20 feet to the offside of the centre line of my
car. The camera flashes 4 times as I pass and the car behind me is too
far away to have triggered the camera, so it appears I have.

What I would like to know from someone with expert knowledge is whether
or not they can bring a prosecution on the evidence they will have on
    the film.

Firstly, if I'm reading this correctly, you don't have a front number plate.

Secondly (and I'm sure that this has been done here before), isn't there a
bug in the older GATSOs that causes them to flash twice against oncoming
traffic when they are out of film?

Thirdly, perhaps there was another GATSO on the opposite side of the road
that *could* catch you, hence the four flashes...

    In any case, good luck!

I was in the Golf, with front number plate fitted.
    I don't know about that. I can't remember everything. That's why I read
ukrm, because everything I need to know is repeated on a weekly basis.
This is the only Gatso in the area, on the other side of the road to the
one I was on. There isn't one that points west.

You should be OK. There is a 'facing' camera in Glasgow with no lines in my
lane, which I routinely speed through almost weekly, and it flashes every
time, and ive never had a NIP through

Thanks for that, I can breathe easy then.

If I get an NIP I'll be sending you the bill.

Ta for that, but this was a Gatso, not a Truvelo. Looking at the link in
your previous post there's something about a Truvelo being installed on
Hogg lane in Grays, but this was on Lodge Lane just to the west of the
    Southend Road junction.

I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed for the next 2 weeks. My firm
are pissing themselves laughing at the moment, this morning two 50 quid
fines came through for skipping the congestion charge and on the same
day this happens. At this rate I'll only be working just to pay fines.

I feel your pain and writing along with the ticket "HOW THE **** AM I
SUPPOSED TO EAT" makes bugger all difference, either.

Fair enough. So why are a lot of them being changed to forward facing ones?

They're probably not Gatsos, and more likely to be Truevelos.

Just out of interest, and while commiserating, but how long did
it take for the congestion charge things take to arrive after the
"offence"? It's just that I forgot to get one about 3 weeks ago,
and was hoping I'd got away with it.

Less than a week to arrive from the date of offence.
