  1. Whats the best way to scrape off an old gasket that is stuck to the
    metal?

A combination of a liquid gasket remover and the careful use of a gasket
    scraper is the typical suggestion.

'indiana' is a 'nolnn' and 'hoosier' is a 'solkk'. Indiana doesn't solkk.

I use the liquid gasket remover, too (highly flammable) and a plastic
putty knife. There's also a rotary pad, made of material much like a
Tuffy dishwashing plastic pad that goes on the end of a stem. I found
the kit at NAPA. The stem goes in the chuck a regular electric hand
drill. After spraying a bit of liquid gasket remover, use the plastic
putty knife to take off the big chunks, then the spinning pad to remove
the little stuff really stuck to the metal. Only problem with the
spinning pad is it throws bits of gasket around. If you cover parts or
plug holes with rags, you'll keep he stuff out of cylinder, etc. Good
    luck.
