Gas prices around the world

As my dad would say "Logic is a set of rules by which we can ascertain
the veracity of a given statement"
I personally see no formal logic applied here - simple opinions and wishes.

 

I was addressing your remark: "nteresting idea. Taxing gas so that
eveyone pays the same amount of tax no matter if you make 10k per year
or 10k per month. I am still trying to figure out the justification
behind that idea," which seemed to imply that a high tax on gas is a
regressive tax because a high tax on a universal necessity is... well,
regressive, by definition (which is why most states charge a lower
sales tax on food than on other items.)

My point was that though it may have become regressive in the
contemporary context, it was probably deemed quite PROgressive when it
was introduced. It probably remained in place through social and
economic change as a result of either (a) political/bureaucratic
inertia, or (b) social engineering: an attempt to limit the amount of
driving citizens do.

'Course, my point was utterly off the wall if you were NOT implying
that you view a high tax on gas as a regressive tax.
