Decided to keep the Zumo 400 to go with the GS. I downloaded the updated
europe maps & it comes with the updater type thing that runs slow as a dog.
When i update it, only one map seems to go up at a time, like Germany & if i
then upload France, it replaces Germany.

How do I upload all of the europe maps at once? Someone on a the garmin
group said to do a .img file, how do i do that when i can only access the
    maps by the shtpile uploader?

Use Mapsource instead to download the maps.

I've had a quick look at the Garmin Zumo site. I'm not familiar with it as
    I have the older 2610.

It appears that the Zumo has a fairly small integral memory which can store
one region at a time. Additional maps can be loaded to an SD card. This is
where Mapsource is useful. You should have it on a DVD or you can download
it from the Garmin website. You'll need an unlock code which should've come
    with the Zumo.
    http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/zumo450_OwnersManual.pdf page 40

On my 2610 I simply click to highlight the maps I want and then upload them
via a USB card reader to a data card. On the 2610 a 2GB CF card can hold
    virtually all of Europe.

there's probably an idiot's guide to a Zumo on UKGSer.

I may regret this, but sign up for an account at

Mapsource software is very good now., and IIRC you can select the map or
part of a map to upload.
Remember though, yours is the 400 and has a lot of limitations on
    memory/maps.
Mines the 550 and has all the places in it I've wanted to go since I've had
    it.
Might be worth jamming a memory card in and seeing if you can loads maps to
that. You might have to switch maps though as I'm not sure the capabilities
    of the 400.

or buy the Zumo that has the functionality you need rather than the cheapo
version aimed at couriers and xenophobes

    I've been Gazumped again ;o)

Right decision. I've had mine since they first came out in the UK.
Load the Mapsource program, go to the Garmin page and make sure it's updated
to the latest version. _Big_ improvement over earlier versions. You can then
easily create routes and waypoints then stuff them onto the Zumo.
Map changes automatically when turned on in different countries.

    Good luck.
