It's frozen! I can't turn it off using the button, it won't respond when I try to use the touchscreen and it's showing that I'm still in a dodgy area of Milton Keynes, even though I'm sat at home. It's been like this for about four hours now, and I'm waiting for the battery to die before I try to reboot it and see if it works again. Ooh ta, that's worked. -- Lozzo Versys 650 Inter-Continental Hyperbolistic Missile , CBR600F-W racebike in the making, TS250C, RD400F (somewhere) BMW E46 318iSE (it's a car, not one of those 2-wheeled pieces of shite they churn out)
For future reference, I have the three actions to take in order of severity typed on a sheet of paper in the Zumo case. 1) Soft reset as per Garmin handbook - Press the + key and the power button at the same time for several seconds (possibly up to 30) 2) Take battery out for a couple of minutes then replace 3) Hard reset - erases Favorites and Routes. First turn the unit OFF, then HOLD your thumb on the furthest bottom right hand corner of the screen, push as far into the corner as you can on the screen itself. While holding your thumb/finger on the screen press and hold the POWER ON button until you see the ZUMO splash screen, once the splash screen is up you can release the power, but continue to hold your thumb in the right corner of the screen for another 5 - 10 seconds, you should see a window that pops up and asks "Do you really want to erase all user data?", make sure to answer YES to this window, if you don't see this window, then turn unit OFF and try the above instructions again, ensuring your thumb is in the furthest portion of the bottom right hand corner of the touch screen. After the reset is successful, place the unit in an open sky view location, stationary, for a minimum of 20 minutes to rebuild satellite memory. Favorites and Route should be backed up on SD card. Once hard reset is completed, to restore these go Spanner/User Data/Import Data > select what you need. POIs shouldn't be deleted by a hard reset. If they are, there should be a backup copy on SD card but you'll need friendly PC to get into Zumo.
Do you have any prefered sites for downloading updated maps? Has to be free though. -- Lozzo Versys 650 Inter-Continental Hyperbolistic Missile , CBR600F-W racebike in the making, TS250C, RD400F (somewhere) BMW E46 318iSE (it's a car, not one of those 2-wheeled pieces of shite they churn out)
GPSunderground [1] worked for my 2610. I got a DVD free from Garmin and then they wanted £75 for an unlock code. I think not[3]. GPSunderground supplied a little utility that unlocked the maps on my PC. I could then upload the maps to a CF card for use in the 2610. I've no idea if such a facility exists for the 550. I don't even know how tha mapping data is stored in the device. [1] thanks to AntE IIRC http://gpsunderground.com/forum/ [2] there won't be another update compatible with the 2610 so boo hoo. [3] I'd already paid for 2 updates so thought they had enough of my money plus see [2] to see why they pissed me off.

Thanks, I just tried to download some from the site Wessie posted, but as you say, it's complex - My brain doesn't do complex. I'll make do with the maps I have, the towns are all still in the same places. -- Lozzo Versys 650 Inter-Continental Hyperbolistic Missile , CBR600F-W racebike in the making, TS250C, RD400F (somewhere) BMW E46 318iSE (it's a car, not one of those 2-wheeled pieces of shite they churn out)
