2 themes in one post but kind of related. About to go away for a long
weekend and realise I haven't yet mounted my Streetpilot 2610 to the
bike (had it a few weeks now so no excuse really!). Searching the
internet I've not found any obvious and economical solutions - I have
the various RAM mounts, what I need is something wihich attaches to the
bike and ends in the "ball" to which the rest of the RAM stuff will
    connect. Any ideas/experiences?

Second thing is, if I cannot mount the Streetpilot in time then I will
want to stick a map in a sleeve on the tank.... course it's a plastic
tank isn't it so magnetic options are out. I don't need a full size tank
bag, any suggestions (UK preferably, time is tight!) on anything that
might be suitable? Looking for something < 50 ukp.

I use a normal RAM mount on the bar clamp, works a treat. RAM do a special
    cradle for that model.

The Ram Mount people sell all kinds of bases which can attach to various
parts of your bike, and end in the ball. I used one which sits on top
of the clutch reservoir (R1200RT). It comes with 4 replacement bolts to
secure it, which are about 1cm longer than the originals that hold the
clutch reservoir cover on, to allow for the mount and gap collars.

I hunted the part down on the US site http://url.ie/2g9t and then went
hunting for suppliers in the UK. I think www.ram-mount-uk.com eventually
found a similar part and shipped it quickly enough.

I have all the RAM bits apart from the bit which will connect to the
bars. You say the bar clamp - not sure where you mean? I have found I
can get a suitable part from Telferizer which screws in place of the BMW
badge on the yoke - pop it off and there is a thread underneath that can
be used. Advantage is the unit will not interfere with e..g the screen
    when the bars are turned.

Ism't there a risk of the unit fouling the fairing / screen? Or maybe
it's not such an issue on the RT. I know when I was experimenting with
the option on my old Sprint, clamping to the handlebars wasn't really
    optimal either aesthetically nor practically.

You had the Zumo 550 right? The Streetpilot is somewhat more brick-
    esque.

Not on the RT at any rate. I'm mounting a TomTom Rider2, which is bulky
enough, but still fits fine. It is slightly distracting when you first
mount it, as it's just starting to encroach on the view of the left
mirror. If you want, you can get a clutch reservoir mount where the ball
is offset to the right by about an inch, which will eliminate this, and
perhaps any potential fouling with the screen on the K. Incidentally,
the pictures on the Ram-mount.com website are a bit misleading - the
clutch cover looks like it integrates or replaces the existing cover,
but in fact it sits on top, with little plastic collars to keep it
    separate - http://www.gizzard.com/~bboyle/ram-mount.jpg
