Hi I posted this also to alt.satellite.gps.garmin but thought I'd see if
any of you folks can help.

I have a streetpilot 2610 which appears to have maps on it of UK - shows
town names etc but doesn't show minor roads.

I have mapsource (v6.9.1) on the laptop and I can mark a section of map
for transfer - when I send it, it almost completes then displays and
    error in mapsource

"the gps has returned an error status while receiving data packets."

The strange thing is that sometimes the map detail DOES appear to have
been sent (for just one area) but the next time I try to send it or any
    others, it gets removed.

The way the unit is now with its data is inadequate for any detailed
route planning though will at least show me where I am to towns etc and
does show as I said the major roads.

As far as I can tell there are only 2 small areas of UK maps installed
on the Streetpilot at the moment.

I have also reinstalled mapsource City Navigator Europe 7 and tried it
and then tried it after installing City Navigator Europe 8.

Appreciate any tips. Is there a way I can reformat the memory card (it
is a 2gb that was supplied with the unit when I bought it off ebay
earlier this year) or does that risk losing ALL the maps installed? I
wondered if it was a capacity problem, the message doesn't indicate that
but I am also unaware of how to extsblish the capacity of the memory
    card.

Thanks, I don't have a CF card reader. Damn. Also don't have any other
cards of this type in the house. Thing is, I *have* been able to
transfer some files as described above...

you can get a card reader in a poundshop for a pound - or 7dayshop.com for
    a bit more.
