The garage I got my disk bent at, then subsequently replaced by, have
asked for the old disk back. The trouble is that I asked the owner what
I should do with it after he paid for the replacement, he said that I
should keep it. This puts me in a spot, as I gave it to a mate, and he’s
chucked it out. The last thing the garage owner said to me, is …. You’d
better get that disk back, because it’s mine. It’s worrying me, because
I woke up this morning thinking about it.

Should I just give him the scrap value for the disk (about 15 pence), or
just run away and not go back there?

Tell him to **** off, politely if you like and point out he gave you
the damaged disk which has now been scratched.

Exactly. If they wanted the old disk then they should've made that a
condition at the time they made the agreement to put right their **** up.

When National Tyres fucked up my rear wheel they phoned me to say that I
could collect my new wheel from the BMW dealer. Clearly they couldn't be
arsed to go from Brecon to Cardiff to collect said wheel. As I was then
living less than 2 miles from the BMW dealer this suited me.

About 3 weeks later I got a call from the manager of the National Tyres
place. He said he would like the old wheel. I stated that there had been an
agreement for them to supply a replacement. Ownership of the damaged wheel
had never been discussed. He sounded a little pissed off but I didn't hear
    from them again.

I should do, yes. However, he's wanting the disk back so he can make
some money out of it by getting it straightened and punting it out to
someone else. Hence the change of mind.

Thanks, that's a great help. I've got another gripe with said shop about
some pads they gave me to replace the ones that went with the bent disk.

First time I went out in the wet, I pulled the front brake, and nothing
happened for 2 or 3 seconds. It was like this every time I used the
front brake in the rain. In the dry, I was getting brake fade by the
bottom of a hill. EBC greens didn't seem to want to work with my non
    stainless steel disk.

I expect they had them soaking in WD40 for a while before handing them over

Tell 'em to **** off. The disc was never theirs even if they replaced it.
Well that's the case unless they told you the replacement was "exchange" and
seeing as how they bent it, I doubt they'd get away with that.

They probably want to flog it to some poor unsuspecting **** with a brake
    problem.
It's yours then. To do with as you please.
It's in the past then. Tell the garage to **** off.
Ask him to show you a purchase receipt. If he can't, see above.
Send them a bill them for mental anguish.
Go back, go face to face with the garage owner and tell him to **** mop.

That's a point, he had the receipt off me for the new one and wrote two
cheques out. One to me, and one to the company that I got the disk off
for some strange reason. The bent disk receipt I've still got though,
and I do have proof for both disks on my account with the shop I got the
    disks from in Germany.
Heh.. I've got over it now. Although I am a tad worried about meeting
    him tomorrow.
    In a polite way, maybe.

I wouldn't bother going to see him, phone him and tell him you can't be
bothered to make a worthless trip because you a) don't have the disc,
and b) wouldn't give it back if you did. Don't be bullied. If he gets
shirty, tell him poiint blank and in these words to "**** right off".

Name and shame the company, but I'm guessing I know who it is. Has he
got ginger hair and a London accent?

The garage I got my disk bent at, then subsequently replaced by, have
You own the old disk surely? Therefore it's yours to do with as you wish.

Tell him you were talking about it to a mate from one of the bike mags, who
asked you a lot of questions and took the disc away to be checked by an
    independent engineer and photographed.

If you really want to be polite about it, just point out what you've
written - you can't expect to know that they're going to change their
mind some time down the road.

That would be a plan. You really ought to develop a long-term plan
too, as you seem to be some sort of magnet for those who would do you
down, take advantage of you or generally ignore your plaintive pleas
    for fairness and justice.

Stand up straight and assert yourself, man.
