Phew, I thought you meant she had been bum raped.
Increase your offer for the land ?
    :)

Best help would be to physical, to help clear and rebuild. You could put
out a request for any one traveling in the area to detour that way to help
    out ?

Swot I would do if I was reasonably sure of them. Assuming I was quite sure
    of my migration plans....

Swot I'd do - you'll gain huge local credibility before you arrive.

If you don't get there, well, as you say, you can afford it.

Don't know how high the area is, winter coming... a rocking good tent?

Granted, but there are bikers out on the road traveling down the
    PanAmerican all the time.

A browse of a few blogs, and then maybe a few emails suggesting they may
want to detour inland and lend a hand ?

I know I would if something like this happens when we are on the road.

Donate your plot of land to her so she can build a nice, new, earthquake
proof house on to live in.

The only humane, charitable thing to do.

    I wouldn't do that TOG.

Only 5% of the money will make it to her.

True, but I am not really skilled in the building trades. That counts me
out and means that TOG's building stands a better chance of surviving
    any future earthquake.

In one of the Dago groups we have a Chileno who works as a service droid for
insurance companies (he expects to be busy, certainly).

May I ask him on your behalf what is the best thing to do, with knowledge of
    the country?

Does your magazine/journal/rag have any contacts they can utilise ? You
have gone over on business a few times. Is it worth them doing some sort
of "aren't we good helping these people " type thing ?

  18. I also have two very close friends who were born in Chile and have
just reported to me that their family are safe. I don't know what
influence their family has over there or what information they could
pass on, but feel free to throw anything my way and I can ask them. It
may or may not help, but I know they won't mind me asking.

Paging Lukas... He's off to the south for a few days for volunteering. Will
get back to UKRM by the time I have some hints.

  20. Yes.
    I can see it now.
A convoy of Yanks, Krauts and Brits all arriving to rebuild the house of
someone who they don't know, as a favour to someone else they don't
know, who only wants them to do it so he can keep in with his future
    neighbours when he moves there.

    Sure, that'll work.
