I'd pretend I was listening carefully to everything he said and get on
my way as soon as I could.

If they'd made me late for something I might consider complaining once
I'd got home but otherwise I'd just be nice and try to escape from
    their clutches.

Quickest option is _always_ best. Any discussion will simply prolong

  3. 'Long loud earful' well then I guess you'd be presenting documents and
all sorts for some time to come. Why would you vent your spleen on the
plod who's doing the job as directed by his management? Do you think it
    would get you anywhere?

Yes, there are plenty of drivers who don't notice. There are some that
do (the majority I suspect). Riding with lights on and high-vis
clothing probably reduces risk. However it's a personal thing on
whether you are worried about this.
Am not sure this is the case. I've noticed them in the past (well Sam
    Browne style belts)
I'd agree to some extent on this (saving money). Random checks for
anything are a slipperly slope I don't want to encourage.

I have a (probably vain) hope that if a high enough percentage of all bikers
stopped did something similar (I'd expect most to not be loud and angry as
they haven't been laid up for 4 years), then the groundswell of opinion would
make its way up to (a) the media, and (b) the idiot who came up with the
    idea.
As others have said with modern sports bikes the amount of high vis jacket
visible round the fairing when the biker has assumed the position is going to
    be very, very small.

Naked bikes and smaller, more upright bikes are going to be better ITR.

Anyway, it's obvious. The jackets are fitted with RFID chips, GPS chips and
also they make it easier to see where the big, bad biker is from the piggy
    choppers in the sky!
Well, maybe a driver who has an accident has to take an awareness test akin
to the old bike test where the instructor leapt out in front of you.

They could use cardboard kids or old prams.

Driver hits them, fail, and another training course.

Oh, that's got to be rubbish. I'm sure that I'm equally visible
wearing hi-viz on either my Bandit or my GSXR. Probably more so on
the GSXR as the screen is tiny and low compared to the Bandit.

And anyway, I don't think hi-vix is really applicable in on-coming
scenarios. That's for the headlight. It's side-on where it's useful,
such as lane swapping on a motorway.

I've just had an idea. Wy don't they offer to fit, FOC, FOAD air horns to the
    bikes?

I've put one on the 9R and the VStrom and they are extremely effective.

Yes, it requires input from the rider.

Still much rather have that than a hi-vis jacket, which in my case will go
straight in the car boot for the next trip to frog land.

I can't remember the last time I had to use my horn for the purpose it
was intended for. In fact, I don't even know if the horn on the Versys
works cos to my knowledge it's never been used at all.

I'd look at my riding style if I were you.

I wouldn't compliment someone for a tactless comment like that. Well,
    maybe I would.

One of the best pieces of advice I've ever heard was...

"If you had time to hit the horn, you had time to avoid the incident".

My horn gets used once a year, at MOT time. Sorry, that should read "gets
    replaced".

Since i heard it, I've had this mental conversation with myself a few
    times,

"Oh, he's being a wanker, thumb over horn, **** that, just get out the
    way".

And I suppose the same reaction when a law is passed making the same jackets
compulsory. And when BHP is limited. And ditto when bikes are banned.
    Some of them'd like that.

Shall I assume you're a regular when they have rallies to protest
    about anti-bike legislation?

Member of any motorbike organisations that actively campaign against
    potential changes in the law?

It's ok, I doubt if Steve bothers either.
