Can't be that old. These new-fangled mobile telephones
have only been available for a couple of decades.

Unless you were referring to the cottage version with two
    blokes in the other cubicle.

there's a thing. Although it was in another thread, the "classic
cyberpunk" novel "Snowcrash" was mentioned in this newsgroup recently.

There's a bit in it, where the self-referentially-named central
character, who lives in a no-amenities garage, decides to pay
(literally) a visit to a commercial bathroom/washhouse facility. Now
it's always bothered me that he has a shower, and *then* takes a shit.

    Surely that's just *wrong*?

    Or is it me?

Depends if he gets out of the shower first.

    flowers or something.

    It's not just you.

In fact, it's put me right off reading the book altogether.

I finished Diamond Age by the same author last night. Had some great
ideas in it, and was 'well written', but, ultimately wasn't a very
satisfying story. Good in parts, but no more, imo.

    [snowcrash]
it was a book of it's time - hasn't aged well at all. If you really
want to read some old-skool cyberpunk, read Gibson's "Neuromancer"
    series.
"The Diamond Age" sucked. He's a very variable author. His
"Cryptonomicon" isn't perfect, but definitely worth having read.

no idea. On a related note, I've almost cured myself of my
OCD-inspired requirement of checking the gas cooker is turned off
    before leaving the house.

  16. I thought it quite funny. So did my colleages. My boss,
to whom I accidentally forwarded it, did not.

really, I've almost erradicated all the silly things I used to have to
do to get through the day. I achieved this by the darsy-self-help
technique of "telling myself to get a fucking grip".
