The hilarious thing is that you seemingly think you're being
    devastatingly witty there.

You got sucked into believing that risking your arse on the line for a
lie in exchange for some bits of ornate metal and tax-free cars 35 years
later is some kind of noble sacrifice...

You got used. Get over it.

Might be missing operating behind enemy lines.

The sad thing is, by doing what he has with his life, he's earned a
right to be heard... and look at how he chooses to squander it.

Dumb's the one on the left.

Would've been nice to see Coney make something of "reveiled"=veiled, or
concealed again after a, presumably, brief period of exposure or clarity.

Anyone who was there knows it was not a lie, we did a job that was asked of
us to the best of our abilities, we were going along good till the septics
came along and stuffed the whole thing up, you cannot fight a guerilla
warfare with conventional troops, we would be keeping ourselves alive during
the night from sniper fire, then during the day, the little slopehead
bastards were walking through the compound as if nothing had happened, just
to see what damage if any they had caused, not only your normal fighting
guerilla, but old men, well, to us, 40 and above was old, but there were 10
and 12 year old kids walking in with a primed grenade in the basket they
    were carrying.
    That was no lie
I watched as a SVA Colonel blew a girls head off because he suspected she
was working with the VC and he was right, three grenades in her basket
    That was no lie
You are saying we were used
By whom? You or your parents
I have got six of those " bits of ornate metal" and I have a "tax free car"
and I consider that I deserve each and every one of them looking after the
future of idiots who can't back themselves up except in a mob, then they sit
at the back so they won't be seen
You think the Government is handing out thousands each week and the place is
    loaded with people like me
Nah, that's because there are not many left but let me tell you this, I
would rather have six of these people standing with me than 100 of today's
"average" 18 - 19 year old as we were then

You've got it the wrong way around... to my mind, being asked (or
forced, in the case of the conscripts) to make the sacrifice you did in
exchange for what you got in return is akin to one of those "...and all
    I got was this lousy T-shirt" t-shirts.

The people who get sent to whatever hobby wars around the world get
gypped at the time, and they pretty much continue to get gypped afterwards.
If that's really the case, then why'd you bother? Honestly?
Nope, and I'd welcome you to outline exactly where you got that
    impression from.
Ummm, that sentence doesn't actually make sense.

I had a chance to go and squat in a muddy trench, and for all the
sloganeering to that effect, it wouldn't've been for honour or for the
defence of the motherland or any of the other hypocritical horseshit I
watched whip otherwise normal people into, frankly, unthinking, hostile
fuckwits. That wasn't something I wanted any part of at the time.

    Oh yes it does!

I know exactly what he means. Todays youth is nothing like the guys IK,
I, and a lot of other knew.

I guess we were brought up with different values and far different
teachers. Today, kids have "Smee's" to look up to for a role model!!!

Heaven forbid! no wonder there are incidents like Macquarie Fields now.
    Idiots for teachers...

You can't. "ex-Postman Pat" just doesn't have the same ring
to it. I guess we *could* call you "Pisshead Pat".
