Got it open, so far it seems that the brokenoff bit of spring had
clattered around knocking tiny slivers off the inside of the case
but no serious damage to the gearbox. Next I need to open the clutch
cover on the other side to see whats happened in there, they share
the same oil with a fair sized passage between.

This is going to need very close examination of every part and carefull
cleaning. Crossing fingers and holding onto a hunk of wood might help.

Its quite possibly nothing more serious then a slack primer chain, no
adjustment so they all do that.

Have a look by the bottom bolthole casing, should be obvious if it has been
chewing it.
