And so the government finally finds a way to end the outrageous carnage on our roads caused by motorcyclists. -- jeremy '02 Fazer 600 in blue _______________________________________ jeremy0505 at gmail.com
If these fuel protests come to anything, the gubmint is considering introducing a minimum fill when going to the petrol station to stop people topping up needlessly. (Like today - Sky news and Kilmarnock) What if they set this at say £20? We're a bit fucked for the bikes ain't we?
Only if they set the one rule, for *all* vehicles. Somehow, can't see them overlooking the smaller capacity of bikes, tbh.
In uk.rec.motorcycles, gazzafield amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom: Well I must say I've not seen any evidence of panic buying yet but just to be sure (and so I can get to the EOSM) I filled her up to brimming this morning before the great unwashed were out of bed.
In uk.rec.motorcycles, gazzafield amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom: That *was* panic buying YTC.
I was wondering about this. I tend to keep my bikes fully fuelled up, and I've got a couple of gallons in cans, for the lawnmower and strimmer (which strimmeth not these days, and I CBA to strip the engine). So: Trophy, 26 litres; Duke, 18 litres; GPZ550, 18 litres; 400 Four 14 litres; Benly - actually, that's about half full, so 5 litres; CB125S 7 litres. DT50MX - 3 or 4 litres. No idea how much is in the T-bird. Coo, if my garage ever catches fire it'll ignite half of Sutton. But the problem is that I don't possess a bike capable of doing SW London - EOSM - SW London on a tankful. I can stretch the Trophy to 200 miles, and with a gallon can in each panier that means maybe 280 miles.... Nope. Not enough. Hmm...... GPz550? I can get 60mpg out of that, cruising it. So well over 200 miles, say 320 with the gallon cans. Possible. CB125S? 100-odd mpg, 150 miles on a tankful: put two gallon cans on the back. That'd do it, just. Might take a while, though. Might be four wheels, but the Silver Tuddy will probably be down to half-full come the weekend. If the lemmings suck the pumps dry, that won't make it either. I know - I'll pinch The Doctor's Micra, and refuel it later from the bikes, if I have to. Job's a good'un. Out of curiosity, does anyone know of a bike with a fuel range to exceed the old 1100 Pan European? I got 300 miles out of one of those, once.

In uk.rec.motorcycles, TOG@toil amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom: Neither of my bikes will either but I squeezed fifty five quid into the Ford this morning. *Ding*, and that's why I filled it right up, not because I was panicking, but because of all the other cunts that would be. I don't see why I should suffer the indignity of waiting in a queue or only being allowed a tenner's worth of fuel because I didn't use my loaf and fill up when the opportunity presented itself.
Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, gazzafield Judging by the fuckwits squeezing the last drop of diesel into their vans and cars this afternoon, I'd say we're a bit fucked anyway. Not quite. The original Katana -- the 672cc one -- had a 24 l tank, which meant I could make it from Adelaide to Mildura early in the morning before any servos were open in between. A bit of restraint to get over 20 km/l and it'd push 300 miles. I got ~450 km out of Black Kat between fills, in Norway in heavy traffic & Scotch mist at 80 km/h max on 2-lane highways (20 l tank, that tankful was 24 km/l). -- Ivan Reid, Electronic & Computer Engineering, ___ CMS Collaboration, Brunel University. How the **** do you get 200 miles out of the Trophy? -- R_O_B_B_O Trophy 1200 1998 BotaFOF #19. E.O.S.M 2001/2002/2003/2004. B.O.S.M 2003, 2004, 2005 FURSWB#1 KotL..YTC449 PM#7 ..
If I take it easy (like 70-80mph cruising) it gives about 40mpg. Anything over 80 and it schlurps and normal consumption is 35-38mpg. But it has a huge tank, as you know - close to six gallons. I met an old[1] Brit geezer at Chimay in 2003 who had one, and he claimed to get 50mpg out of his. I ventured that he didn't ride it that fast, then, and he claimed he went everywhere at 90. Lying old ****. It's ridiculously thirsty given the performance, but I don't think the difference bwteen (say) 45mpg and 36mpg, on my 5000 miles annual mileage on it, really amounts to a big financial difference. [1] ie: older than me.
I doubt they care about a CG125 filling up for £6 or whatever. I think they are worried about Mr Big Jag spending £60 or so at a time.
I filled both my cars and my bike yesterday, but I didn't feel panicked. Mabye I was "Calm and Calculating buying".
I only get about 150 miles out of the CBR1000F, th weird thing is it gets better miles per gallon if I drive like a maniac.
