I've got to make space in the garage, and so I think the Z650 has to
    go.

Good points: it's an early Z650, so the best looking, in candy red.
It's been professionally resprayed in the right colour (before I got
it). The paint is lifting ever so slightly by the filler cap, mind. I
reckon a razor blade incision and application of super glue would stick
it down again. I've been meaning to do it.

It's a US import, not that this matters, because they were all the same
anyway, except for the higher US bars, which it still wears.

Mileage - dunno. It had an 85mph US speedo when I got it, and that
wouldn't have been the speedo it came with. I've since fitted a proper
    UK-spec 140mph one.

It was rebored and the top end rebuilt by a dealer for the previous
owner. Seriously, this is a good engine. Very sweet, no rattles, no oil
leaks, no smoke. Sounds just like a good Z650 should.

It wears a superb condition genuine OE exhaust system, which cost me
£300 (and thanks to Champ for collecting it). It also wears an as-new
rear mudguard. The front is *just* beginning to rust at the bridge, but
it hasn't broken through the chrome yet. The rest of the chrome is
    superb.

The seat was professionally restored and is also superb.

It made Chimay and back this summer with no problems.

It's got a stainless steel brake hose. I now have all the parts to
convert it to twin front disc, including more steel hose, and a ZX9R
master cylinder, and I'll obviously throw these in.

It has a nice new back tyre.

It's got plenty of tax and a month's MoT.

On the downside, the head races are shot and will need replacing before
the next MoT. That's £30-35 if you DIY, or about £100 if you don't.
The rear shocks are the originals and have no discernible damping at
all. Oh, and the fuel tap doesn't shut off ;-) The front tyre is
legal, but needs replacing. The chain has a bit of life left in it.

This is a really, really good Z650, in the sort of nick that's hard to
find now. I was going to stick it on Fleabay, but I'm offering it here
first at £1350 (which is rather less than it owes me) and no offers.

Pity you need the space, I'd fancy that for a swap with the Turbo...

Unfortunately I can only fit two bikes in my garage, one reason we're
    thinking of moving...

  6. In uk.rec.motorcycles, belched forth and ejected the following:
Last time you said something was mint you reported rust spots and other
faults just before the "exhaust disembowelled itself" so I think I'll
    give it a miss.

And where exactly in TOG's posting did he describe this Z650 as "mint"?

  8. I suppose his point is if the mint ones fall apart the non-mint ones
    will be worse.

(Interpreting WC here, not speaking for myself.)

  12. That is *gorgeous*. Tank badges needed, obviously, and the exhaust is
off a later model - possibly even a GT750. No centre stand either, maybe
because of the non-standard exhaust. But still lovely to look at.

Damn, but the Z650 is a beautifully-proportioned bike.

    <fx: double take>

    Blimey, Cardiff, *Australia*?

    Ah, Cardiff, Wales.
