For reasons I'd rather not have to go into, the recent purchase has to move
    on straight away!

    1989 F reg XJ600.

34k recorded miles on the clock - I have no reason to doubt this, as it made
it all the way back from Lancashire to Kent, with my fat lump upon it, and
    without missing a beat.

The metallic paint is in surprisingly good nice for a bike that is now 16
years old, and is original - things like the fork lowers and swingarm have
obviously been repainted at some stage, but not to an awful standard, and is
not exactly the kind of maintenance out of keeping with a bike that old.

I have a garage bill for £389.75 from March 2005, when it had the following
    fitted:

    4 x NGK plugs
    Synthetic oil and filter
    Heavy duty chain and sprockets
    Cush drive rubbers
    Braided front brake hoses
    Front pads
Front calipers unseized, and new seals
    Brake fluid changed both ends
    Sprocket carrier bearing replaced.

Carbs were balanced at this time, as were the valve clearances, and it shows
when the bike is warmed up - it has a very smooth tickover, and is very
    responsive to the throttle.

All three discs must have been done in the recent past, as they are in very
    good nick.

MOT and tax til February 2006, and I have the previous MOT which shows it
did less than 200 miles last year.

The only things I can see it needing attention in the near future, are
forkseals, as the OS one is weeping slightly, and the front tyre, whilst it
has plenty of tread, has moderate sidewall cracking.

The clutch had been slipping slightly when I first picked it up - I've lubed
the cable, and it's now fine.

Rear tyre is good, rear shock seems to soak up bumps fine, and everything
electrical works fine, even the clock lights, and the fuel gauge!

Hell, it even has a really effective headlight, and the choke mech still
    holds like it should do!

Ideal winter hack - I've been getting 40mpg+, and I don't exactly hang about
    when on the bike.

It owes me £550 with what I spent going up north to get it - I'll take £500
for a quick sale, and offer it only in here for a few days, before I stick
    it in the local rag.

Ideal winter hack, and quite hard to find in this kind of useable condition
    these days.

Located in Kent - email addy in the headers is valid.

The engine's fucked and he's slung some EP90 in it to keep it quiet long
    enough to flog it?

Nope... like I said, did 322 miles home from Preston, didn't miss a beat.

I'd like to keep it really as it's actually nicer to ride than I was
expecting, but can't - simple as that.

Always starts fine, and not being funny, I'd not sell a duff bike knowingly
onto anyone, not least someone off of here.

That aside, how's the ZZR you sold a while back?

Not full of EP90, that's for sure.

    Actually, that's an interesting question.

DnC, you there? What's the current state of play?

The engine probably seized leading to a horrible, painful death ;-)

Well that makes two bikes that we know of, that aren't then... which is
    nice.

Oh, and I did lie in that respect earlier... I checked the invoice for the
servicing done in March, and it's actually had semi synth, not fully
    synthetic oil.

Joking aside this looks terrible. What's wrong with it?

  10. Pity I can't afford it. I've always rather fancied one of them, much better
bike than the Deviation. mate of mine had one a bit back, and later sold it
to another mate. first mate pranged it bigtime, commenting afterwards that
he couldn't get it to corner as tight as a well-sorted RD350LC which he was
    following at the time.

after rebuilding it, he then sold it. tother mate kept it for some time and
eventaully replaced it with a VFR750F.

Fully synth would be a waste of money for an XJ600

Nothing bar the things stated before, as in the front tyre has some sidewall
cracking, and one of the fork seals is weeping.

You're not that far from me, so if you're that concerned I'm about to try
and rip some poor unsuspecting person off, why don't you pop along and give
it the once over - I've got nothing hide in respect of this bike.

In fact if a serious buyer wants to pop along to look at it, if they can
find any serious defects with it not mentioned, I'll refund their travel
    costs.

You'd probably (including buying it in the first place), be looking at a max
of £600 all in, with the tyre and fork seal sorted (and that's if you 'get a
man in' to sort it) - bargain winter hack, that's cheap to insure.

Pity you didn't sell that two weeks ago - would've saved me the trip to
Norwich to collect the GPz for winter hacking duties.

opened an ad in quite that way!

Oh well, 'whatever' - honest bike, priced to sell... and it reliably moves
under its own steam more than 53 feet, which is more than can be seemingly
said for some of the other bikes sold on around these parts in recent
    months, eh. :)
