Right, space needed in the garage, and before I fleabay it I am offering
    it up here first.

It is a 1980 American import model
We have owned this bike since 1995.
(Although the reg doc shows a few name bounces as it was loaned out)
    *no* MOT.
SORNed (but you will have to reSORN)

It has stood in the garage for nearly 6 years, the tank and carbs were
    drained.

    No Battery

It took me 30 mins to get it running using my XJ battery this
afternoon. Then I rode it up and down the street.

    200ukp will secure.

    Its red

It runs (ticking over at 1k, even the gear numbering lights work)
    http://www.ytc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/GS550/P4260037.JPG

    It has done 52k miles

It's still red, forks and mudguard replaced in 2001/2

Last on the road in 2002, after a major tidy up

Tank and panels resprayed, seat has been recovered
    http://www.ytc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/GS550/P4260041.JPG

It has a bit of history, as featured in the Dec 2001 Classic Motorcycle
    Mechanics (page 40)

When is used to look like this

    Look, nice mudguard and stanchion

Scratch on clock housing, the housing is not off this originally but a
GS750 that went down the road.

I had an original wire wheeled 550E - only bike I ever dropped 3 times - and
always due to some other twat.

As a result I hated it as well. It never seemed comfortable, but I did like
    the sexy red instrument lights.
