I have a script in place on my other server which stops
direct linking to my images on anything that's not
authorised. It uses .htaccess to send them a different
    picture if they try:
    http://www.ecom-secure.co.uk/errors/****.gif
(the clue is in the title)

I saw a few hits in the webstats and tracked back the url
to that website. Unfortunately I can't do the same on Demon
so I had to go and quickly watermark all the pics.

On looking further at the webstats, it appears someone
tried the same trick on ebay but got the nice image.
You could see the same IP keep reloading the Demon page
and seeing the right images, then loading his eBay page
but seeing the naughty one instead.... must have been
    well confused!

Oh well, I've sent off a nice legalese email to their
upstream ISP as I've not heard anything back from the
DucatiTrader webshite, so hopefully they'll kick ass
and get it pulled, if not the entire site.

I bought one anyway as it was quite cheap, sadly there was a load of
horrible blue writing on the fairing. Any idea how I can clean it off?

The kind of muppet that didn't realise I would find out and
change them after the website owners never responded to an
email asking them to pull the advert.

Oh well, they might take notice now...

Tell you what though, that animated GIF on the advert does *much* better

    Nice. Suitably understated too.

Personally I don't see the issue that Antonye has with them using his
pictures. Still, I seem to be regularly puzzled by his reactions to
    things and general behaviour.

Or, alternatively very offensive. The people being offended will not be
the ones who linked to the pictures.

I don't understand why he'd place the ad in the first place.

It looked like a 'regular' bike sales website to me.
Well, without having seen the original webpage I'd assumed that pictures
of Antonye's bike were being used in place of the bike being sold. I
still don't think I'd give a **** under those conditions. Whether
they're making a profit or not wouldn't really make any difference to
    me.

Yes, but I mean: what can he possibly achieve? How can you sell a
    bike you don't have?

because stupid people will send the money before seeing the bike and
then even more stupidly expect it to turn up?

This is where you go "whooosh" isn't it?

    Oh, right. I see.
Not at all, dear chap. It looks like The Blane has got all
    whoosh-tastic.

Plus it was a word-for-word copy of the text on my
website, so not like he was using the pictures as
an illustration of what the bike may look like.

It's a common scam - they get the purchaser to send a
deposit up front, say $3000, and then clear off with
    the money.

Now I take exception to the fact that they're using
my pictures off my website (the bandwidth for which
I pay for) to perpetrate this scam.

    Understand now?

I originally emailed the website two weeks ago asking
them to remove the advert due to it using my pictures
and my text, therefore the likelihood of this being a
fake advert/scam was quite high. At the same time I
watermarked my pictures, to show that fact.

However, nothing has been done by the website to remove
this advert, so it seems that I've accidentally mixed
up certain images on my website during the last update...

Well, I suppose so but I couldn't see the situation where I'd react at
all to the same situations. As I said I didn't understand your
motivation. Still don't really. I understand *what* triggered your
reaction but not *why* you reacted in that way.
