No idea if its worth a penny but I know a fair few here like their old
camera. I have in my possession a Voigtlander VF135. Manual focus ring
and fstop dial, manual film advance, self timer (mechanical) tripod
mount. For some reason it also has a (very odd, and I assume old
fashioned) button cell battery, but I cant for the life of me work out
    what it actually powers.

Made of a sold clean grey metal with leather grip strip (fake?) and
original leather case. Has a standard flash mount, takes regular 35mm film.

    Anyone?

Read further down, it's a 35XF, which isn't the same.
Can you still get those batteries, 'cos if you can't it would definitely
have some sort of influence on the price.
Hard to say, it's a quality compact rangefinder, so someone might want
it. I'd almost be tempted myself, but I already have a shite old Yashica
    rangefinder.

Try taking it to a shite old camera shop / Jessops and see what they
    offer you.

A.Lee was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever: Not *quite* - it's a rebadged Rollei 35XF, which isn't quite the same
thing as a Rollei 35, no matter what the marketing droids would like
    you to believe.

Unfortunately, this makes it rather less desirable - the proper Rollei
35 is still worth some dosh as it's one of the most compact full frame
    35mm cameras you can get.
And of course it takes a proper mercury PX625, which are unavailable
    these days.

So one either has to get the meter recalibrated or use Wein cells. The
latter don't last very long but double the value of the camera...
    It's leatherette, and it's still a little bit of a collector's
piece. 20 quid is probably a tad low, depending on the condition
someone on fleabay may well cough up a bit more. Then again, it may go
    for a fiver...

Best thing to do with a camera like this is to buy an external light
meter and use it - the lens on these is pretty good so it should give
    you more than reasonable pictures.

Don't. Just don't. Most of the staff at Jessops (with the possible
exception of Jessop's Classic Camera store) won't have a fscking clue
as to what it is. They're likely to either laugh him out of the shop
or offer a fiver for it.

eBay or a reputable secondhand camera dealer, and there aren't many of
    the latter left...

    Hmmm, thanks for the warning.

It's been a while since I frequented Jessops stores, but last time I was
in one they had a nice collection of shite old cameras for sale in the
    window, hence my suggestion.

It depends on which store, I suppose. The Jessops in Chester has a
very knowledgeable guy working for them.
I've had a look see on Ebay for various SLR cameras, they don't seem to
fetch anywhere near the price you would expect for them. I think going
Digital has had a knock-on effect on the SLR value for now.

Unfortunately, that often seems to be the exception. Can't really
blame them though, their business is shifting modern stuff and give or
take the odd muppet there, they seem to have enough people who know
their way around the brand-new items.
It certainly did. Most run-of-the mill SLRs have hardly any secondhand
value left compared to what they cost new because everybody thinks
"digital is better". Unfortunately for my wallet there's still too
much interest in the high-quality stuff that I prefer. But people
trying to get a new film-based camera at the moment can get a lot for
    their money.

  8. Adams, the specialist shop in Tunbridge Wells, is *ace* with a fantastic
collection of ShiteOldCameras on shelves and ledges everywhere.

Timo, you'd be running around going "NNNnnnggghhh!" and fumbling for
    your wallet.

The place also has one of the best used stock selections, for all major
    makes, I've ever seen.

As they replaced *all* my camera kit *twice* last year (first a
burglary, and then everything stolen again at Madrid Airport) I'm
regarded as The Man With The Unmeltable Plastic.

Or, you could try this lot

    http://www.smallbattery.company.org.uk/

I have a Yashica Lynx 5000E which takes a no longer supplied cell
however these guys supplied an alternative.

Yep, I was aware of their webpage. Trouble is that as they state
themselves, there are two replacements for the mercury PX625 - one is
the Wein cell I mentioned above (rather expensive as they don't last
that long once they have been 'uncorked') or the MR9 adapter, which
doubles the value of the camera.

All other alternatives require a recalibration of the meter on most
cameras - there are some that don't require it but they're pretty
rather. I *think* the original Rollei 35 may be one of them, actually,
    but not the cheaper models.
