New rear disc on a 4 yo bike?!!?
Was there someting actually wrong with it or was this the typical
licence-to-print-money fee that you have to pay when you get a bikeshop to
    do a roadworthy?
If so; which shop? (We need to identify these cunts and freeze them out)

  3. I thought it was pretty standard these days to make them throw away if they
don't warp. I asked a couple of places if they could skim mine, at about
half life, and they just laughed. That was about 75,000 k's ago and before
they wore past the minimum thickness tho'.

could be a rear brake dragger - seen it before

once saw a zx6 where the owner had worn out the rear pads in 9 months and
really fucked the disc up in the process

My old Suzuki VX800 (Little Red Throbber) had a single front-disk but
really abrasive sintered-metal brake-pads (to make up for the lack of a
    second disc).
I scored the first disc in under 5000km and had it replaced under warranty
but they put in original pads again.
The second disc scarred-up too but they wouldn't replace it.
I changed to "normal" pads and no further problems. (and it still had
    plenty of stopping-power)
