posted on behave on Neil Ronketti (occasionally of this parish) Anyone want a 1984 K100RS? Completely reliable, boringly comfortable, terminally 1980s. I've had it for a year now, and since that time I've treated it to new Conti tyres about 1000 miles ago, a new seat, fluids, filters, fork seals. Everything to keep it comfy and reliable really. Around 54k miles I think. Will check tomorrow. Heated grips don't work, and there's a hint of a warped disk, but since I serviced the forks that's largely gone away, so I think it may just have been a bit picky about the fork alignment. The rear shock could really do with a service now too. Oh, it's got a new clutch cable, which is £14 in parts, and I reckon about £15,000,403 in labour from a BMW dealer. I'll get a years MOT on it in the next few days. I paid £1000 for it - will take £800. Complete with BMW panniers and top box. And a custom paint job from Gus Kuhn which I think is lovely, but is showing it's age now. 200+ miles tank range, and it's the only bike I've ridden where I have to stop for fuel before complete arse overload due to an uncomfortable riding position. It's also supremely comfy for pillions, as Sol from this parish will testify. It's been perfectly reliable for me doing 300 miles a day, in rain, sun, snow, hail, and fog. I'm going to miss it. I wouldn't be at all unhappy if this was x-posted to Ixion, UKRM, etc. Would rather it went to an ixie/UMRMer than take my chances on eBay to be honest. email him at replacing the obvious -- Adie (replace spam with nickname to reply) UKRM FAQ: http://www.ukrm.info/faq/ YZF-R1 : FZ1 : GPz 750 turbo keeper of the FAQ for my sins MRO#11 BOTAFOF#7 BOTAFOT#130 DIAABTCOD#17 MIB#24 YTC#16 BOB#15 ex-UKRMMA#22 BOMB#11
The perfect bike for anyone considering whether or not they've got the bollocks to go on tour with the lunatic fringe... Perhaps I should add that I've still got a spare sidecar sitting in my back garden which I was going to fit to my K100. Much cheapness to any ukrm poster.
<snipola> Hello everyone, firstly, thanks Adie for taking the trouble to post this for me - much appreciated. I'm pretty surprised by the amount of interest that this has generated, so rather than replying to you all individually, here's a quick summary of Stuff and Things: 1) Photos are now online: http://www.ronketti.org.uk/k100rs_1.jpg http://www.ronketti.org.uk/k100rs_2.jpg http://www.ronketti.org.uk/k100rs_3.jpg http://www.ronketti.org.uk/k100rs_4.jpg I was going to resize them, but thought it's better to show you the thing in close-up so you can get a better idea of the condition of it. 2) I'm going to keep the top box, as it's useful to me. They're pretty commonly available on eBay (quick check - item 160341894761 is the one). To be honest, this isn't really a great loss to the potential buyer anyway, as the one I have doesn't lock anyway. 3) I'm in Cambridgeshire. Soham, to be exact. Yes, *that* Soham. 4) Good points: New clutch cable. New fork seals, and against my better judgement I filled them up with the BMW specified AeroShell Four fluid, at a tenner a litre. I gave it a pretty thorough once over, including new filters (oil, air and fuel), new fluids all round, and new plugs. Receipts for a new driveline a few years back at some monumental cost to one of the previous owners. I also fitted a new seat when I got it (a year ago). If you're into pain, I can supply the old one as well. Plenty of life left in the tyres too. 5) Bad points: As mentioned, a suspicion of a warped disk. But this does seem to be largely better since the fork service, and reading the HBOL it seems that these things are fairly finnicky about fork alignment, so this may well be nothing to worry about. Damping at the rear end is, um, minimal. Then again, if you're riding it hard enough for this to be a problem, you're on the wrong bike. It's monumentally comfy, but fast bumpy corners can get a bit exciting. The little bit of useless plastic that BMW fit to the top of the screen to deflect the wind has long since vanished. I never had it, and never missed it. There's some rust on the rear subframe, but it's nothing serious. The ignition key doesn't fit the panniers, and vice-versa. Heated grips don't work. Fuel warning light is a pathological liar. I've had it come on while riding away from the pump with a full tank before now. I think that's about it. All sounds pretty damning, but it's a 25 year old bike - and with regular fluid changes will easily see another good few years of solid service. If anyone wants to come and see it, I'm around pretty much all week apart from Wednesday. I work from home, so time isn't a big issue. And the kettle is always on. Thanks all, nr.
