Front Tyre Wear

I'm running my tyres at 31psi front and back expecting that to
increase by about 6psi when hot. It's worth noting that I don't use my
bike for commuting so almost any riding it gets is at slightly illegal
    speeds.

I've no doubt that I'll cop some flack for my comments but I stand by
    them 100%.

The ones in question may have been made to feel worse by 20k mile
suspension but the rear tyre suffered badly and there were bits of
rubber balling up and breaking away on the front edge. We'd left the
bike standing for somewhere around 90 minutes before the ride in
question so no way were they already hot and it isn't as if a Bandit
is what any sane person would call powerful.

I suspect that the main problem is that I don't normally ride using
that type of tyre and they're probably not designed for the high
ambient temperatures and super grippy road surfaces on the Isle of
Man. I keep seeing them being recommended as being a good all round
tyre but I'd argue that all round should include the occasional bit of
lunacy. They're not up to it.

They certainly are. The only other person who doesn't rate them is
Christofire so it's probably down to the pair of us giving them hell
but they just don't seem up to it when the roads are hot and you start
    to push them.

I think one full session on a track day would see them all over the
place and it'll be interesting to see how others get on with them at
    Mallory.

They did look a bit miffed, to put it mildly.
Well IANAE but a) they're touring tyres, so what else would have been
better and b) trackday tyres aren't necessarily good road tyres ... 010s
were great on the road, and overheated and blistered to **** on track
days, as the carcass was clearly designed to hold heat, rather than
    dissipate it.
    [/QUOTE]
You're right saying they're touring tyres but they seem to be becoming
so popular with posters to this group that someone is going to get a
nasty shock when they find their tyres aren't quite what they
    expected.
    It'll happen.

Tarnation! Just had some of these fitted to the 'Busa. To be fair
though they are holding up OK but I tend to be fairly easy on tyres due
    to my smooth riding style/cowardice.

This might be a little controversial, but anyone stupid enough to buy
them as sports tyres probably deserves to crash.. in the same way they
    would using BT020's.

Not to worry. The lads who do that kit car grass tracking are always
    looking for Busa engines.

Heh. Pick a suitable earth bank onna bend and you could well achieve
    this.

Interesting, bearing in mind Andy's comments, 'cos IME the 020
performed fine in hot, fast, 2-up conditions, for example the ones my
Sprint ST were wearing when I had Andy on the back from Luxembourg to
my house via the Vosges twisties. We were not hanging around, as I'm
sure he remembers, and as Champ, following me, said "I probably
wound't have wanted to go any faster."

Anyway, if Andy's comments are correct then I'd take issue with the
idea that the Azaros are "better" all-round than the 020 - after all,
the latter was supposed to be just an 010 with a harder centre, so
should have been, and IMO was, very well suited to "sporty" riding.

But as you say <snipped> it's very much horses for courses, and
different bikes and riding styles will make one man's nightmare tyre
    another man's dream.

Probably make s adifference if you can feel it too. I doubt that I could
tell anything other than the bike gets "wallowy" when the pressure on the
front drops below 30psi and it seems unflappable at pressures around 36-38,
even in the hot, two up *and* at slightly illegal speeds.
Please, let me start. It's "Flak" :)
All I'm looking for in a tyre is a little more life than these Conti Sport
Attacks are going to provide. They're already squaring off and compared to
the 014's I had on for the first 6000 or so miles, they're definitely not
long life tyres. They do grip though, so much so that I haven't felt so much
as a mini slip since the weather warmed up. I'm not a particularly good
rider, but these Conti's were the limiting factor during the winter.
We don't seem to suffer from super grippy surfaces oop 'ere in t' frozen
    north.

I keep seeing them being recommended as being a good all round
What about 2 up and mild lunacy? (Seriously)

When's Mallory taking place? I'd like to hear about the tyre experiences

Don't do it. I seem to be the lone voice of dissent here when it comes
to Avons but they really were shit. Even allowing for aged suspension
on the Bandit they were just not up to the job and anybody riding
their bike 2 up with any degree of enthusiasm will find the same.

I'd think Andy's level of riding skill soon overcame the Avon's level of
grip. What he has to bear in mind is they weren't designed as
supersports tyres, and don't perform as such. They are a cut above other
sports touring tryes though, but it's probably been a while since Andy
has ridden on anything that actually benefited from having something
like the AV45/46 fitted, as opposed to another brand of tyre.

That's a fucker, coz the only time a really ride like a twat is when the
wife's on the back. It's her who likes to get to the edge of the tyre. Well
I do too, but it seems far easier to get it cranked when she's on the back.
I don't think I could live with a lack of confidence in the tyres over
summer, I've had that all winter and it's shit.
