My front disc brake has been squealing for the past 3,000 miles.

I had the front pads redone 1,000 miles ago and they still squealed afterwards.

Does this mean that my disc needs replacing or treatment ?

Should the pad replacement have helped the squealing ?

Is this something that left unchecked could cause other problems ?

It could be the pad compound. I had some Galfer Green pads that squealed
like crazy until they were really hot. The stock pads and the EBC HH are
    completely silent.
