Not sure if anyone here would be interested, but I just saw this
    in uk.legal...

Duuno about you, but I think this is a ***bad*** idea.

Why? Moderating is what the legal system is all about!

    Why?

Its not preventing anyone from using the existing group but would allow an
alternative place for those who want to get advice without having to deal
with all the nutters and trolls.

    That would be excellent, but...
    *ding*

    You snipped the first possibility..

Another possibility is Steve Firth, assuming that bods from the
    same team that currently moderate:
    www.usenet.org.uk/uk.net.beginners.html are involved.

I'm not sure that anyone is fit to moderate such an important
group. The current 'team' involved with uk.n.b are already
    arguing and displaying elitism.

How strange. Thank the stars that nothing of that sort would happen
    around here.

Oh, please. It's a usenet group. It hardly rates as "important".
A froup is only as good as the posts in it. If the moderator
moderates away all the worthwhile/correct posts, then the
group will become a very low signal group, and so less people
will read, and it will wither and die in comparison to the
    unmoderated group.

Why do people take all this crap so seriously?

    Bwahahaha

I called a UKRM regular a faggot in jest t'other night on IRC. He was
complaining about the cold or summat. Q rant about unacceptable language,
sponsoring hate crime. Suddenly Rachel made a general post, now she hadn't
been in evidence for the previous hour or three. These were the only two
    op'd incidentally.

Look, , I didn't taunt her for long, ok.

    She actually suggested this?
Well, she's obviously OK on some levels as she has IRL friends in the NG but
she inhabits another world in some respects.
I have in the past made deliberate comments in a private chat window just to
    check....and been bumped.

See, that's how rumour, gossip and other freely distributed
bollocks often becomes fact. Some "usenet groups" do actually
server a real, genuine purpose. ukrm in fact, is a wealth of real
information if one has the time to sift through all the crap,
banter, satire and alcohol induced gibberings.
Which is exactly what's happened to and
    it's now all but dead.
Lines are drawn, either deliberately or by natural process, I'm
not sure anyone said "serious" though.
