Anybody been up to the Edinburgh Fringe this year or planning to go? In true local fashion I had never attended a venue, even when my company had an office near the Royal Mile! "fuggin tourists and beardie wierdies cloggin' up the roads, bah, humbug, grudge",, though the hunting of foreign jonnie student tottie arriving with no accommodation planned, was a popular annual event. Well I took the plunge and spent the weekend doing the rounds. Late booking accommodation is a big problem, but it's possible to rent rooms in the Uni. Pollock Halls of Residence which works out nicely. Fair staggering distance from the main events at 04:00, passing a couple of eateries doing a sterling (late late) job along the way. There is a completely bewildering array of events and some "pin the tail" selection seems inevitable. Found a couple of handy review websites. Booking "on the day" it can be a case of what tickets are available, though when the central booking office is out of allocation it is still possibly to buy at the door (it transpired). Highlights were probably: "Spank" at the Underbelly. A comedy night 23:30 to 04:00. One of the main turns bombed and was heckled right out of the building <fnar> Pam Ann at the Pleasance - a pseudo air hostess ripping the shit out of the industry and 8 unfortunate Easyjet crew unlucky enough to be discovered in row 3. Might consider DVF'ing a trip up next year. 'Hog
