French Weather.

  1. Can someone point me at a good French weather site?

Maybe the equivalent of the French BBC.

I'm looking for *charts* for today + tomorrow - none of this shitty
    metcheck 'select a town' bollocks....

    TIA.

The *French* BBC? What a contemptible idea.

I can tell you that it's pissing with rain below 1500m altitude in
Chamonix, and dumping with snow above that.

Be fair, he's on holiday and posting to UKRM. I think he's got enough
issues to worry about without charging him.

How's it going out there? Doesn't sound good for the backcountry you were
    hoping for.

  11. It always rains in f**king Chamonix. Head round to the Iti side of Mont
Blanc. Mark my words, it'll be sunny and dry....

Is there any point in being below 1500m in the Alps ?

Apart from to visit bars of course.

Well, my hotel's at 1300m. And it's warm and cosy and has a bar and
everyfing. Unlike perverts like you and Ferrier, I prefer to come down
from the mountain at the end of the day for food, beer and a proper
    bed.

Well, we've not really done any 'proper' back country - conditions not
worth hiking of paying for heli drops for. But Ralph has been a great
magician, pulling a rabbit out of the hat every day. Did some great
runs in the trees during snowstorms at Courmayeur and La Tour, and even
found some fresh on the Grand Montets. Yesterday we went to La Tuile
in Italy, and rode untracked powder in sunshine all day! Best (and
last) day of the season. Iain got a few bits of good video that no
    doubt he'll send to you.

Need to talk to you about going to Kamchatka next season when I get
    back...

Do you know how fucking cold that place is? Cheap trips will not make
    up for frostbite.

This trip will be far from cheap. And it's all volcanic terrain,
apparently, Quite toasty near the top of some of the peaks :)

More rides on ex military helicopters then.

Btw, I expected you to protest about my hinting at cheapness being a
motivator and I almost heard the feet stamping as you typed your
    reply.
