Just looking through maps and stuff. It seems possible to hook up with Ace
at some point and have some good riding. An alternative to hacking down
there this time might be to take the train. If you're sharing a 4 berth
cabin, it would work out pretty competitive in terms of petrol expense and
time. A shared 6 berth might be even cheaper. Check it out here:
    http://www.raileurope.co.uk/frenchmotorail/ for destinations.

Thoughts? Would some of the worriers ofthe group be more inclined to
participate if there wasn't an 800 mile thrash down there?

Do you reckon I could get away with sneaking me and a GSX-R600 on board
    without anyone noticing?

Seeing as you're in no rush to get anywhere, why not take D roads all the
way down and back. France from Calais to the South, avoiding motorways
completely, say 300 miles each day, can be done easily and leisurely in 3
days. Or spend 1 day doing say 400 miles, part on motorway just to get you
part way to the south and decent weather.

That's a big fat no, isn't it? I suppose the downside of sweaty people
sharing an enclosed space is a large one.

Well do feel free to pop in on the way down - that's the weekend Porl
& co are planning to be down, so we'll prolly be having a partay on
    the Saturday (17th)...

Let's check this. Saturday is only going to be possible if we bang it down
in one go. Champ is in charge of routes and timing, I'm in charge of making
him go. If you have the party on a Sunday then we'll stand a chance of being
    awake for it.

Ah, well you failed to reply to my earlier question about whether you
were travelling on the Friday or not, you see, so I didn't know. At
what point will your plans move from probable to definite?

Heh. Mind yu. don't be so hasty - the route down to Ace's last time
was only such a slog cos we spent ages sorting out Bonwick and his
exploding rear wheel. On the way back I thought we had a long(sih)
but pleasant enough ride. As long as we get an early start from
England, Saturday night at chez Ace works quite well. And it sets us
up for a great day in the alps when we leave.

Can I just make a pointless suggestion at this stage to maintain my
involvement even though any input from me is utterly superfluous?

There you go Ace. We'll be there.

    That's a no then.

Well I can't come this time, but next time I'm a definite maybe as I fancy a
    longer trip to the continent.

Who knows, I may even have a proper motorcycle by then.

    That or a car.

Aye, but TBH I'm not really fussed whether it's the Saturday or
Sunday, except that Jude might need to get up for work on the Monday.

What might be best would be, as you suggest, an early start for you
guys on the Saturday, while I go and fill the Volvo with beer, then a
decent run down should get you to ours in time for a shower or
whatever, and I can prolly meet you somewhere en-route, then party on
    down with a late finish.

That'd leave the Sunday morning for recuperation, rehydration and
relaxation, in the pool or whatever, and we could either leave in the
arvo or do a decent round trip around the Jura (deffo worthwhile) and
get an early start on the Monday.

    But really, whatever, like.
    *Spit*.

    What a dreadful idea.

Of course, if anyone _wants_ to, there's plenty of space in the
garden. I could even borrow some of the land next door if needed, but
that'd need be getting to full-scale rally proportions :)

What happened to the dwb of old who regularly did 170 mph on God's own
motorcycle and earned millions in the job of giants? I've been on these
trips on a zx6r on the paltry wage of a starving artist.

    [1] Yes, I know I have.

    1) 160mph indicated
    2) The job of giants turned into permie work.
    3) I decided continually sticking things on credit cards was 'a bad idea'.
ie attempting to live within my means rather then beyond it.

I'm turning into an old fart :)

I'll drop you a mail anyway.
