I conclude you're some kind of 'luck vampire' drawing the luck from
others. Your weaknesses are 3 half pints of holy water (with hops and
barley), and people pointing out how your hair has turned very "silver".

My sister had that on a 78. Then she went away to college and I thought
it would be a good idea to give my parents an ashtray. Took me about 8
    goes to get it right.

On the bright side though she stopped talking to me at all for years.

I googled and Pico Veleta in Spain beats it - 3,375m

    Those French, they lie!

No, really, it _was_ shit. Orchestrated 'free-form' jazz with a
    conductor, FFS.
Some french guy on a big trailie[1] we overtook later in the week.
Plus loads of twats on herdlays, of course.
    Yeah, please.

The pleasure was all mine... well, some of it, at least. But really,
those cols and gorges were stunningly, mind-blowingly amazing. I only
wish I could have done them at a decent pace ;-)
    Got any dates yet?

[1] Prolly an AT, or maybe a Varadero. Or it could have been a
super-ten, or, in fact, virtually anything at all:) Difficult to tell
from behind and once passed is past, as it were.

Actually, I hate all that shit.
*possibly* the last weekend in August - Bank Holiday in the UK. It
rather depends on my lift from Heathrow to Basel, and whether I can
get a couple of days off work (that's going to be an amazingly busy
    time for me).

Apparently so. Tho there is an ongoing spat with a pass in the
Spanish Sierra Nevada. Tho, when I was there, the path seemed to be
    permanently closed.

Highest mountain in Europe used to be Mt Blanc, at 4807m. If only we
knew someone who'd been up it, eh? Anyway, since the iron curtain
came down, Mt Elbrus (in the Caucasus mountains on the Russian border)
    claims that distinction at 5642m.

Hokay - keep us posted eh, as we may be making plans for some time
    away mid-August...

It really wasn't that bad imo. Loud enough to lend some life to the square
but quiet enough to be able to talk over.

Me too, many times. And I've been up the Italian side and down the
    French side.

Well I suppose the latter's a valid point, but it would still have
been too loud to sleep through if they hadn't stopped just as we'd
    gone up to bed.

I'm going to talk to my lift this afternoon, and talk to my boss.
Then I'll have a better idea.

3 in the morning as in the previous night :)

Ah, one time you did it you had to turn back 500m from the summit, no?
Didn't know you'd attempted it more than once. Presumably the
    successful one was also heli-assisted?

Well if it hadn't been for that we'd not have been going to bed before
    midnight anyway...

You're definitely mixing me up with someone else. I've only attempted
it once, and had great conditions. The heli-assist from the Italian
side was because the 'normal' route from the Aig de Midi was closed
(FOAD crevasse), so instead of starting at 3800 on the French side, we
started from the same approx height on the Italian side, tho the
assent from that side is a fair bit easier.
