French Track Day Insurance - Update

Thanks to a very rapid response from an insurance company in Lyon
recommended by the VCF my concerns regarding cover for the day at
Charade in July have been addressed.

Apparently for events like this you must have Responsibilite Civile
cover (public liability). Nothing to do with dropping your pride and joy
at great expense but everything to do with squashing some poor sod who
has just dropped theirs. It seems that most French bike policies give
this even when on a 'race track' so long as there is no timing.

I double checked with Auntie Carole at the BMF. Their view was if it's
not a public road your not covered - end of story. Now so far as the UK
is concerned I am currently reading the blurb from Focussed Events very
closely. This seems to rely on a signed indemnity.

Anyway, they can cover me for 11 euros if the track is FFM homologated
or 20 if not. A quick email revealed that Charade is not and a cheery
message in response to a posting on the VCF forum confirmed that the
circuit is considered too dangerous for bike racing. We are not racing
so that's OK then. Mas du Clos is, however, homologated despite what I
remember from last year as rather a lot of armco. Entries are in the
    post.

Presumably UK organisers of track days at French circuits for UK
residents only work to UK legalities.

  2. So they won't pay out if you're on your drive or on a private road then?

Interesting, I wonder how they've worded that in their small print.

They probably will but must check out of interest.

Possibly the same as this wording quickly lifted from the RAC:

"..... on a public highway or on a private road or car park to which the
public normally exercises an uninterrupted right of access, in which
damage occurs to the Motor Car or any personal effects owned by the
Insured, whilst such property is in or on such Motor Car; or the death
or bodily injury of the Insured whilst in, or mounting into, or
    dismounting from the Motor Car."

    --- Is covered.

A track day circuit is not open to 'the public', only those who have
    paid to take part.
