You could always look in a few extra placs just to break the rule.

It might make the job quicker next time round.

  2. There must be a way to solve this - can you get an English converted
driving licence? There's a DVLA office in Preston which I believe offers
    licence production.

There is none, not as far as I know. Drivers licenses apparantly are not
regarded as travel documents. I'll just see. With a bit of luck the passport
will turn up in time. I'll just see how it goes. Main thing is, I do
    appreciate my own stupidity :)

The odd thing is, you can use a driving licence or photo document to
fly in and out of the UK. I'm not too sure how this applies to
residents here from other EU countries, but surely if you are sailing
the same rules should be applied?

Thank you, that clears it up a lot. No need to be so damn
condescending. Oh, how is he supposed to get from our hallowed shores
    to France, btw, hmm?

Could be a good idea, and I might be doing the same too, if I can't

I doubt England will give a monkies about him leaving once they can
    verify some form of ID.

France is full of cheese eating surrender monkies, so might accept him
in on ID - I'm not actually sure I've ever been checked for ID/passport
    when landing at Calais anyway.

Then onto belgium and dutchland, where spete gains a new dutch passport
and is able to re-enter our sacred shores.

Sounds like a good plan anyway.

I'm a burd, it's my *job* to be touchy.
I have visions of Spete leaving the UK, not being allowed onto the
French soil and either having to sit there, all alone for days on end
while his situation is sorted, or he gets sent back on the ferry to the
UK. Except the UK won't accept him back, so he either gets sent back
to France, or, because we are so nice in this country, gets locked up
until it is sorted. Worst case scenario of course, with him not being
    a UK resident.

Chances are he'll wing it though, after all he did manage to make the
ferry to France despite taking the opposite route on the M25 to
    everyone else.

I've never been asked for it in or out of our hallowed shores, oddly
enough apart from my first trip abroad to Holland, where they checked
    it both ways.
Aye, but make sure he packs all he needs, including his old passport.

True, but not sure how soon they can get it to me in Dutchland as I don't
have a confirmed residency there, at all. I live in the archives in the
    Hague :)
Ordering next Friday, so may still be on time. Thanks for the help though,
but not much you can do. I have to present it in person. Shame you don't
look like WavyDavy, 'cause apparantly he looks like me :)
After my call tomorrow, I may know more. I may have been a bit hasty giving
    up my place....

  17. Go to the embassy/passport office I'm sure they'll sort you out same day
    - or a couple at worst.
Why wait? WTF is wrong with tomorrow?
Got any rellies over here that it could be sent to? or can I get it from
the passport office - as a "Courier service" perhaps?

Depends on how much you want to go - three weeks is a fucking long time
if you pull your finger out.

Nope: they receive the passport and check the application. Then it gets sent
to Londinium for a further check, then on to the Hague, for, you guessed it,
another check. Then the new passport gets printed, sent to London and then
to Manchester. The irritating thing is that the Dutch Consulate is, oh,
about 500 yards from my house :-(
Nowt, apart from the fact that the consulate only works on an appointment
basis and the first available date was next Friday. Initially the Friday
after, but a bomb threat sorted that :) I did tell them about my
predicament, but no sympathy there. May also have been due to the fact that
the passport has been expired for 5 months.
There's still the issue of presenting it in person....
Oh, I want to go alright.
Finger duly pulled out, but it wasn't in for this :)
