Did the gloves leak or did the water run down your sleeves?

Dainese don't make the Assuan any more so I don't know what's completely
waterproof and very warm but HG sell a range of Goretex gloves. I'd suggest
    Gore is your starting point.

They leaked unless the water ran down my sleeves to the very tip of each
    finger. So, they leaked.

My HG kit (dunno what it's called but it's 5 years old and probably was
the "entry-level" goretex suit) was washed and re-proofed last weekend
and stood up pretty well - there was some dampness in the breast pockets
but inside pockets completely dry - as was the rest of me, just hands
    and feet.

Yep. Over the weekend I wore both HG all-season ones and some
Alpinstars winter ones. Both pairs got soaked, particularly the HG
ones which suffered 45 mins downpour before the ferry on Sunday and
the storm in England after, and both pairs stayed bone dry inside.
    Wot 'e said.

If you're still going to be around and you fancy it then I think it
would be nice for you to do a (first) farewell tour of your choice.

Otherwise, and provided there are no other nominations, yes.

It can happen. I've known it in both biking and skiing experience.
Especially when you're needing to take gloves on and off. Tollbooths
and petrol stations were always a pain for that reason - I'd ride for
hundreds of miles in the pissing rain with bone dry hands, then one
petrol stop would get the palms wet, another lubricate the water-ways
down from the sleeves, and then a tollbooth woul lead to that feeling
of wanting to puncture the finger ends to let the water out.

    HG PVC jacket over leathers.
Gloves outside of leathers. PVC outside of gloves. Faultless.
Soon get the hang of pulling the PVC over the leathers with gloves on.

My Daytona RoadStar GTXs are getting on for 8 years old and doing the
same, and I don't look like I'm some kind of cobbled together horror
film creation when I'm wearing them either. In fact, I've been wearing
them all day today cos I had to ride the bike to the train station, and
then sit on the train to attend a hospital appointment at Guys and St
Thomas's, then home again. I meant to put my trainers in the topbox
this morning to change into at the station, but forgot. They are so
comfy I'd forgotten I was still wearing them until I read this thread.

All I am saying is that

    a) They can be worn to work.
    b) I have hiked up Snowdon in them
    c) I wore them for 3 months in the US
    d) They keep my feet dry
    e) I have crash tested them
    f) I disagree with your description of them.
    g) Altberg are cheaper
    h) Yours look like a pair of wellingtons.

Actually, all I did was mention the word Altberg, and some people feel the
need to jump all over them.

Absolutely seconded. I bought a pair of Daytona Racer GTX late last
year. They've done some trips in horrendous weather back and forth to
York over the last couple of months and always kept me warm and dry.

In fact, my combination of those boots, a Gericke Master V suit,
Bikers Goretex gloves, some silk gloves and socks, and some merino
base-layers and snoods, and a Shoei 'winter-kit' for the lid, has kept
me completely dry and warm over that period. Not a single leak.
Highly recommended kit for 300 miles a week in pissing rain and cold.

Third. I have the Travel Star GTX - totally waterproof, excellent comfort
even for my very picky feet, and wearing well after a couple of winters
of salt and one episode of bouncing down the road.

  18. Fourth. I have the big uber boot, Trans Open GTX (although I'm sure it
used to be called something else. Anyway, waterproof and comfortable
    they most certainly are.

the short Daytona Rainbow goretex boots I bought from some bloke in Jersey
for £60 are excellent. He only wore them once and decided they were the
wrong size. Did last summer's trip to the Alps when it pissed down as we
travelled northwards home. Used for commuting last winter & wore all day in
    Uni.

My Altbergs are 10 or 11 years old now. dead comfy, warm in winter,
never leaked, biking or hiking, really cant fault them.

I could prolly say the same for my Daytonas.
