As it's the season to speak of the French Run for those that haven't
    already:

    1) Make sure your current passport is valid and that you know where it
    is.
    2) www.ehic.org.uk <-- Free of charge, get it now.
    3) I suggest you get a travel insurance policy sorted out incase you
need any medical treatment in frog. PHONE up www.insureandgo.com and
make sure you tell them that you'll be participating in a hazardous
activity (riding a 'large motorcycle') - it'll cost you about a tenner
(depending on what's wrong with you) few quid but is a good
    investment.

    I prefer: http://www.direct-travel.co.uk

All their policies include any capacity bike cover as standard, so long
as you're licenced to ride the bike.

Thanks for the reminder _ I think I will need to renew my travel
    insurance shortly.
But not with them - they're cunts.
I'll give them a try next.

I thought the E111 was no more. I think I've got one of the new EHIC
    cards, somewhere.

I shall have to remember to check it out tonight, along with the expiry
    date of current travel insurance.

We used this lot for our snowboarding cover
and very reasonable it was too.

Speaking of which, oi Darsy, do you know
if we get discount on this kind of stuff?

Weird innit. When I was <elsewhere> we could
get cheap cover through the parent company.
Used to cost me £75 for worldwide annual
family cover including snowsports which was
half of anything else I was quoted.
Of course; I don't usually bother with travel
insurance for holidays and the like, it was
only the snowboarding where it seemed prudent
to take out extended cover and then it
was only £40 for the family.

  12. We have one of those, with BUPA. Includes skiing etc. £90 for the family
    for a year.

  13. That's cheap. I now get travel insurance as part of my salary package. When
    I didn't, we were paying over 200 quid - but we'd declared pre-existing
    conditions, you see.

The E111 died a couple of years ago. The EHIC scheme replaced it. You
must get an EHIC to qualify for free or reduced cost medical treatment
within the EU and other scheme states.

  15. I know - that's what I meant by "new". Sheer laziness, but I couldn't
remember the replacement name and CBA to google! I could have just looked in
me handbag, I guess. A lot of travel insurance companies insist on the
    thing, I believe.
