You're not kidding; I find that smearing used engine oil on them helps me
    immensely.

I was just admiring the quality of the line! I thought I'd leave it
to others to actually respond to it

Maybe you should consider a girlie sportsbike instead of a chopper.

Oh lordy, I once worked for a company with a mission statement like
that. Didn't stop them shafting the staff when the share price dipped.
It's a simple trick, reduce staff and increase share divided.

No commercial organisation can deliver staff utopia unless your self
employed, even then avoiding mirrors can be a good thing.

  10. I always, during the period I was running a business employing people, I
tried to make sure they were treated better than anywhere else. On the
contracting offshoot, my company was nominated in the top 5 'job shops',
in an American job shop magazine, as the best to work for in Europe.

But in every off shoot of my company at least one employee tried to rip
me off. Usually one of the ones that had needed my help most to get a
    job.

In some peoples eyes to help some one in need or to provide more than is
needed is a weakness to be exploited.

Snap. Employees are just as capable of being grasping, lying and
manipulative bastards as bosses. I had one little toe-rag who cost me
£20,000 in a fucked order - after 2 written warnings. In an attempt to keep
his job, he said that his father would make good the loss. The father,
quite rightly, refused. Lad was sacked. He then took me to the Industrial
Tribunal, claiming that I had pressurised him to get his father to pay.
Well, of course I had a witness to the conversation. The claim was
e-v-e-n-t-u-a-l-l-y withdrawn, but this was mainly because he had engaged
solicitors and I was defending it myself for free, rather than because his
story was a full-on lie. The company died. Six other people had to find
    jobs elsewhere.

Toe-rag was the weakest link in a company which I had bought. I should have
redundoed him at the start, but I thought I could train him up to compensate
for his apparent lack/absence of brain. He just couldn't understand that
the loss was 'my' loss. For him, it was something that merely cost 'the
company', so somehow wasn't real money.

I don't understand this bit. Why was it withdrawn and what was it?

The claim was for unfair dismissal, in that I had supposedly induced him to
approach his dad to repay the loss, and sacked him when dad didn't come
through. It was withdrawn because he (or, more likely, his dad) was having
to pay (expensive City) solicitors to pursue a bogus claim. Thus every
expensive letter drafted and written to me was replied to at enormous length
and in meticulous detail, which cost me absolutely nothing but my time.

Since each exchange of letters was probably costing the other side £3-500,
and each of my letters was 3 close-typed pages long, it belatedly occurred
to them that it was pointless to continue. So they folded their cards and
took a legal bill of several thousand quid on the chin. They were
undeterred by the facts that [1] I had a witness to the conversation about
him asking dad to pay or [2] there were the requisite 2 written warnings on
his file for similar stupidities in the past. So, in the end it was simply
money that persuaded them, rather than truth, morality or other such
    outmoded and devalued virtues.

    Does that explain it?
