But check the small print as it may not cover out of the UK.
The issue is when you *almost* kill yourself and need to spend weeks in ICU.
The E111 does not cover this. You will be liable for the bill, you would be
liable for the bill to get you home too.

Recent example of this was that drunk woman in ?Greece? who fell off a
balcony - insurance wouldn't pay to bring her home, family had to pay the
    lot.

Have you got £100 k spare at the moment, just in case? :)

    Hmmm...

Motorcycling (over 50cc) - no racing
Declare to Insure and Go: yes
    Additional Premium: yes
Cover under Personal Accident and Personal Liability: no

    That's not good, is it?

    Also:

    Rock Climbing (not mountaineering)
Declare to Insure and Go: yes
    Additional Premium: yes
Cover under Personal Accident and Personal Liability: no
    Medical Excess: £400

Guess we won't be using them for our summer holiday, then.

And some health insurance policies will not cover you if you injure
    yourself while drunk.

That does sound a bit shit. Mind you, I don't often find myself rock
    climbing.

I didn't really expect you to, but I thought I'd point out the
motorcycling bit, in case you weren't already aware of it.

I just mentioned the rock climbing bit as well because I'm currently
(meant to be) trying to find travel insurance which will cover a summer
holiday that involves motorbikes and climbing.

I suspect it might come down to DFC and DFF.

Ahh yes, I've just had a look in the insurance policy documents. When
I took out the policy I didn't use motorcycles so it never came to
    mind.

It appears that there's no extra excess (which is £0 for me anyway on
their Adventure annual policy) and the fact that they don't cover you
for Personal Liability/Accident on a motorcycle doesn't surprise me as
that's what your bike insurance is for.

Started out doing ski insurance, but now cover an enormous range of
'risky' activites, up to an including expeditions to peaks above
8000m. They covered me for heli- in Russia, which a lot of companies
    blanched at.

I've used them for years, with an annual policy, including making a
claim (when a load of gear got stolen in Chamonix), and wouldn't
    hesitate to recommend them.

    Excellent, thanks very much.

I'll have a look and see what they offer - I suspect it might be cheaper
to insure the risk-taking and non-risk-taking parties separately.

It may also be worthwhile looking at the anuual policies offered
    through the ski club
    http://www.skiclub.co.uk/skiclub/insurance/default.asp. Unlimited
snosports is only available to members, fair enough, but some of the
options are also available to non-members and others may still be
cheaper even including the annual membership fee.

But they may not, so you decide.

But if your health insurance is europe-wide, then it'd all be covered,
no? I wasn't saying one didn't need insurance, just that if it's
already covered by a health plan there's no need to get additional
    cover this way.

I don't think we do stuff like that often enough to justify an annual
policy, but I'll have a look...
Hmmm... at first glance, for a single trip, they seem to be
approximately twice the price of SnowCard for cover including rock
    climbing. But thanks anyway.

Yeah, I've heard of that before somewhere - it might have been you, know
    I think of it.

I'll have a look at the BMC's insurance, anyway.

You'll probably find it's no worse than any other insurance policy at the
same price. Don't suppose you asked what the additional premium was?

Of course not. That would involving interacting with another person,
rather than just seeing what it said on their website.

  16. Just renewed my annual family travel insurance policy with BUPA today.

Family of four, policy includes 17 days' skiing a year: 90 quid. 11 quid
    cheaper than last year.
