"Chillier" is far preferable to weather that was the equivalent of
riding through a car-wash for 100 miles, like I had last year.

  3. Me neither. I put the hotel name into my sat-nav and it points the way
there. The only thing I'm not too sure about is which ferry/crossing
terminal I should be taking, there are several to choose from.

    They are:

    Dover
    Folkstone/Chann..
    Ramsgate
    Coquelles/Terminal..
    Calais/Gare marti...
    Calais/Terminal est..
    Boulogne/terminal..

Now, even I know that the best guesses would be the Calais two, but
    which one?
I was going to spend a fiver on a cheap holdall, suggested by Ginge but
I've found an almost unused courier bag, complete with lairy day-
    glo/reflected logo.

I'll have that strapped to the back.

  6. I'm wearing thermals and I'm almost decided that waterproof won't
    feature in my packing.

As a token gesture I took the Bandit on to French and Belgium soil two
weeks ago just to show that it could indeed ride back at home on
    European soil.

DOVER. There are two docks in Dover. Western (Cruise terminal) and
Eastern (Ferry terminal) - as you go into Dover on the A20 (M20
becomes the A20 about 10 miles from Dover) you'll see the Western
docks, go past them. The Eastern Docks/Ferry port will be well
    signposted.

Tip 1: Might sound like a bit of an obvious tip but have your passport
and ferry reference number in a handy place along with your bike's
number plate (if you don't know it) as they may ask for that when you
get to the P&O check-in desk. It always looks silly if you have to
get off the bike, walk around the back and then read the number out to
    the tubby in the booth.

You'll get to Immigration first, (On the way home they appreciate it
if you go in without sunglasses on as if they can't see anything but a
helmet with glasses they often ask me to remove the helmet too) then
after a zoom around past lorries and lane changes you'll get to the
    check-in area.

Tip 2: The French plod dislike speeding even more than UK plod.
They're not going to give you 10% + 2mph before they nab you.

Tip 3: When you get off of the motorway and on to local roads remind
yourself (especially on your first exit) that you need to be on the
Right Hand Side of the road, not left and remember that roundabouts go
the other way. As a bloody foreigner the French may just shake their
head at you but try not to piss off the locals :)

Tip 4: If you're going on the motorway there then you'll need to pay a
toll so some €'s will come in handy. I'm only bringing about €45 with
me which will cover the tolls both ways and tank of fuel with some
    spare change.

Tip 5: DFC (Perhaps I should take this tip into consideration too)

No it was more of a "I have ridden parts of this route before and to average
55mph from dock to door of hotel including a fuel stop would take some
spectacular riding" response. I'm sure there are people here capable of it,
I just don't think I'm one of them

Are you on the same ferry as Colin and Pat. If so perhaps we and Spete etc.
could just meet at the exit point for P&O?

    Calais Terminal Est.

Coquelles is the Eurostar terminus, the other one is a rail station, I
    suspect.

I believe so, we will have to drop into Calais anyway rather than just
jumping on the 16. I will go with the flow, just let me know what's
    happening
    Oh, and bring Blondie )

Mappy.com reckons 2 hours 9 mins or 2 hours 41 mins if avoiding the
    toll route.

    I won't need a fuel stop - I'll top up in Dover.

Or just hand a credit or debit card over to the bod in the toll booth.
Easier than fiddling with cash and no PIN or signature is required.

It looks like there will be a few of us on the coast road and whilst I
personally wont need to fuel up there are a few bikes with miniscule tank
ranges and I regard it as bad form to **** off and leave em )
