  2. Nice one Dad....

Are you staying over in Folkstone the night before, or planning early
deployment from the Borders that morning ?

Not quite on the route, but you're welcome to a beer in Brussels.

Chateau Pierry (in Pierry, surprisingly) is just down the road. Museum &
champagne tasting available. Pleasant place to while away an hour or
    two.

Arras is a pleasant town. Quite a few bars etc in the 2 squares. Many
won't serve food on a Sunday. Ibis in the centre will have a restaurant
    open.

Reims is a favourite of mine. About 2 hours to Calais. You won't have any
trouble finding a restaurant open on a Sunday - just head for Place d'Erlon
and wander up & down until something takes your fancy. Everything from
Michelin starred restaurants to a Belgian chain of brewpubs serving home-
made beer & flam-summat (looks like pizza but the base is different). I
    used this last time:
    http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll/qscr=dspv/htid=1548217 which is a
short walk from the Place d'Erlon and previously. This is used by railway
workers so don't us it if you are a light sleeeper as they come & go all
    hours.
    http://www.choicehotels.fr/reims-hotel-quality-FR163-en?cid=574461 Both
have underground car parks and are cheap for central Reims. This one has a
restaurant but it is worth the 10 minute walk into town for something
    better.

obviously, I inserted the last sentence after "and previously" rather than
    before as intended
