I go a lot further & it gets worse the further north you go...

We're definitely going to cross Thursday night Portsmouth-Le Havre.
Coming back w're probably going to stay another day or three in
France, so will need to arrange own ferries - which is what I've put
on the form that's about to be posted.

    with added whistles
It will be at that time, as Jim says. Also, once you get out of the port
and onto the M275 you won't see a speed camera until you get to
Swindonshire. You might not see any there either, as they are supposedly
getting rid of static cameras in favour of mobile ones, which only operate
    in the day anyway.

Portsmouth Caen would have suited me as it would save an overnight stop
on Thursday night. I'm not coming back on the Sunday anyway as I am
    carrying on to the 'chateau'.

TOG has already saved me some organisation of my journey down and given
me a good opportunity to do a back to its roots run on the tart, so
whatever he decides is OK by me.

That reminds me, a big thumbs up to the foreign chap on a Honda who
warned me about a camera van (with bonus pursuit car) on the A24 near
Chessington yesterday. I think it was just ANPR but you can't be too
careful with a licence as grubby as mine.

We're going out overnight on the Thursday and coming back, probably,
overnight on the Monday - so one extra night somewhere in France and
    four full days there.

I've priced that lot up with a two-berth cabin and one bike, and it
comes to just under £170 LD Portsmouth-Le Havre and just under £180
Brttany Ferries Portsmouth-Caen. So much of a muchness pricewise. Is
there much difference in quality between the ferry lines that you know
    of? Anyone?

I've no idea about the quality but the times were better for us using
Brittany Ferries and I've never worked on one of their boats.

So do you fancy doing this - at least going out? Bonwicks? Hog?
Scraggy? Or will you bastards agree, let me book Caen for us, then
    book Le Havre?

We're going via Caen. We haven't booked ferries or a hotel for the
Sunday night yet but I'd say we've made our minds up as to what we're
    doing.

Food & drink are better and cheaper on BF - although as you are doing
overnight crossings I imagine you will dine somewhere sensible before
    getting onto the ferry.

I'm not going, but I'd still like to be offered a choice of ferries to
    reject.

    Standards are slipping.

AOL. I'll go with the flow. Portsmouth or Dover is fine by me.

Take your pick from the 7:45 from Harwich, 6:30 from Ramsgate and the
    8:15 from Manchester.

I would do it both ways and take a few days more in France. I keep
meaning to and this is the 1st time I've thought early enough to
    organise.

    All utterly useless.
