  1. If you're pulled over, parked, yes you can. If you're stationary in
traffic, no. This would be an interesting test case.

  2. Probably true, but then I don't buy cheap plonk from the WS - like you,
I search out the special offers.

WS special offers seem quite rare. Genuine ones, rather than hyped promos.
I get loads of mailshots which must eat into their margins and are simply
not necessary. Of course, I realise their customer base is made up of
mainly retired people and luddite baby boomers who post orders and pay by
cheque but there should be some sort of check box to stop the mailshots.

  4. I stopped using them for 10-15 years until the euro tanked and made
cross-Channel shopping no longer the bargain it was. In that time I got
no mail from them, but now I'm buying again, like you, it comes once a
    fortnight.

The plate it left the dealers with had a Euro blue flag with the GB on
it. I covered that up with a cross of St George at the earliest
opportunity because I am not a fan of the EU.

When Bear was in the IoM for the TT he brought me back a new standard
size plate with the IoM three legged symbol and GBM on a red background
in the bottom left corner. I've not been stopped for it yet but a
couple of coppers who frequent the shop I work at have commented on its
dubious legality. The three coppers I was chatting to at the Golden Bay
bike meet in Malta were quite interested in it and thought I was an IoM
resident. I didn't want to rock the boat legally in case they nicked me
for displaying the wrong symbol, so I just let them believe it.

  8. Tucked up nicely. I think I'd have been dropping a stiffly worded letter
in his employer's direction, regarding restitution and
    misrepresentation.

Well quite. I don't hold with speed limits. I'd replace them all with a
general duty of care... uhh which we have anyway, so I'm all for everyone
    avoiding them everywhere.

    Is this really true?
Drivers who speed at more than 50kph above the set limit will, from the
first offence, be liable to three months' prison, a ?3,750 fine and six
points from their licence. In 2010 there were 25,046 such offences.

That suggests the jails are going to be overflowing and the Russians won the
    Cold War

Low isn't it, when you consider how many million road journeys must be
    made every day.

  19. Back in the Good Old Days before we had this hi vis stuff, the other way
to "explore" new territories so I am informed was to wander around wearing
a tweed jacket and carrying a clip board. It didn't make you invisible
like a yellow waistcoat would do today but it certainly got you left alone
to do whatever your thing happened to be.
