OTOH, seems a fair trade really - 140+ bhp bikes for a bit of hi-vis.

It's probably going to be a "ignorance is no excuse" sort of thing. Just
because they don't check cars and the HiVi/triangle, doesn't mean that
foreign cars are not exempt from having said items.

_IF_ the law does come in, for Brit bikers, you'll just have to pay your
17/3's on the ferry or in the Eurotunnel terminal. I dunno, I think it's
a toughie for the government. Bloody stupid one at that.

<G> I'll go the Italian way and figure out something that's minimalist
    but within the law.

<fx: thinks> I wonder if I could get Cane to knock up some HiVi UKRM
    stickers...

I wore one when ploughing a trough in the M1 during January and
February, but I wouldn't dream of putting it on now. Headlights are
more effective, as is "staying the **** out of the way".

Some arty type had an exhibition a few years ago which IIRC was called
something like "The Invisible People" which was all about people
wearing hi viz. The premise being, as you said, we just don't notice
    it any more.

Assuming you've got an extra 'not' in there and you're actually saying
that furriners need to comply, I direct you attention to the 1968
Vienna Convention, which has been mentioned in this context in the
past, specifcally the bit that says (I quote from Wikipedia, so it's
probably paraphrased) "The vehicle must meet all technical
requirements to be legal for road use in the country of registration.
Any conflicting technical requirements (e.g. right-hand-drive or
left-hand-drive) in the signatory country where the vehicle is being
    driven do not apply."

There was a story in the news several months ago about a bloke
wandering round Soho and putting fake "parking tickets" on windscreens
    - they looked like a parking ticket but were used when a car had parked
    in a decent way,

Anyhoo, when interviewed the bloke said "I just wander around with a
Hi-Viz vest on and dish them out. No-one notices anyone wearing a
    Hi-Viz vest in London anymore."

That's fairly unsurprising - if you let your eye get caught you will end
up looking at an advertisement, or handed a flyer, or asked if you can
    spare some change.

We've trained everyone to ignore eyecatchy stuff by serially abusing
    their trust.

Some airfields now insist that a hi-vis vest is worn at all times. One
of the magazines produced a vest with the legend "I'm Wearing This To
    Cover Someone Else's A*se".

It has also been pointed out that hi-vis vests are a hazard in a fire.

    Ace wibbled forthrightly:
I did have an extra "not", ta.

That's a nice piece of legislation, but in the UK there is no
requirement to have a triangle/HiVi whereas in France there is. The
conflict could either be there OR because the French requirement is an
addition, it could be said that there is no conflict.

Furthermore, you'll need to define a technical requirement. LHD v RHD,
unlimited horses v 106BHP in France, fine. You can't be expected to
move your steering wheel to the other side or restrict your bike when
travelling to the continent. Not sure how you can class the requirement
to have a HiVi/triangle as a technical requirement though.

I got my high viz vest[1] that way. A company that I worked for
occasionally required us to be airside at Gatport where it's mandatory
to wear one[2]. They bought a load cheap only to then find out it was
also mandatory to have the company name on the back - oops.

[1] I think it maybe in the car but I am not 100% sure.
[2] Since airside turned out to be the roof of an office building I
    never wore the emblazoned one.

    A very quick summary:
Radar warning devices will be banned.
Fixed radar warning signs to be removed.
Radar installation maps will no longer be made public.
1000 new radar installations will be in place by the end of 2012.

I wouldn't think that response was on the list of acceptable attitudes.
If a copper stops you and presses freebies on you, you're not going to
tell him to go swivel, are you? No, you nod and give it "Yes Sir, No
Sir, how high, Sir?" like anybody who wants to get back on the road
    does.

And coupled with them now (at least starting to) follow up tickets
    cross-border the whole thing's a bit of a bugger.

Then again, the first three are already true for CH, but it doesn't
stop me downloading them from SCDB.com onto my TomTom.
