It looks like the 100 BHP limit may be repealed earlier than thought. It
could be as early as July this year.

Bad news is that the government is looking at forcing two/three wheel
    riders to wear HiVi's, FFS.

It seems to be happening in the UK by stealth.

They're becoming increasingly common. Every other rider I saw today, if
not more, seemed to be wearing one.

    Very odd.

    Why , might I ask?
I wear one for my winter commuting and they are damned
effective at picking you out from a sea of tail lights on those
murky evenings. I still haven't taken mine off for the summer.

By people wearing them without being told to.

Loads more doing it now than when we left last year.

I use them in this sunny and shiny weather of us. Useful, ride mates say
they can see me in the distance (they also state that as a fat bastard I
    expose more surface, the cunts).

The only good thing (if that can be said) is that they've not yet
decided exactly on the type of HiVi required (I should have been a
little clearer). It could be a bib, a band or even reflective strips.
It's all a little bit blurred atm.

  10. So not hi-vis at all?

It'll be amusing if they try and apply the law to furriners. Like with
the hi-vis jackets you have to carry in cars.

Something high visibility. The initial article I read stated HiVis.
However, Motomag said it's not been completely decided.
Well, if it does come into effect, it'll either be the case that they
won't bother furriners or they'll oblige furriners to put "something"
on when they cross the border. Possibly the latter, as it's going to be
an endorsable offence and French bikers will whinge that "it's not fair"
    sort of thing.

My Kawa dealer reckons that most bikers will ignore the law. Not sure I
    see that happening.

I'd use brightly coloured clothing if the situation demanded it, say,
seriously degrade visibility, but wearing it as a matter of course, or
worse, making it a requirement, effectlively shifts part (or maybe
'more') of the responsibility of avoiding SMIDSY accidents on to the
    rider.

Until the next one, when they'd all be even.

Aha. That explains the sort of rider one seems to see so many of these
days: they're not pie addicts at all, but responsible citizens
selflessly enhancing their visibility to other road users.

    They've become too commonplace imo.

Years ago when you saw hi-viz you took attention to it, but nowadays
every **** wears it whether they're a copper, road sweeper, cyclist,
school crossing patrol etc etc. We've become numbed to hi-viz and I
think the majority of people take less notice of it as a result.

  17. I just can't see that working. Or I *can* see French Plod directing all
furriners to the nearest shop where, surprise surprise, the hi-vis gear
can be bought for something ike seventeen-thirds of its normal retail
    price.

(Had that scam pulled on my in regard to a GB sticker, a long time ago)

That's a thought, I've got the high vis jacket that I don't need, but
    not a GB sticker

Not to mention the mums who walk their kids to school - and some of the
kiddies too, for that matter. Hi-vis crocodiles.
I think you're not wrong here - those not wearing it will stand out
more, soon. Use of daytime headlights on bikes is becoming devalued
too, as car daytime running lights come on stream.

I pointed out the police scheme last year, where they were stopping non
hi-vis wearing riders, having a chat and handing out tabards and
    backpacks with H-V stripes.
