  2. There is some *very* heavy euro-legislation governing organised trips,
package holidays, you name it. As long as it's not a commercial venture,
or anything remotely "business-like", you're exempt.

This is why I make it absolutely plain that all I'm doing is booking
ferries and hotel for a bunch (a bunch! Feckin' nearly 50 people this
    time!) of like-minded souls.

And that, in turn, is why I won't do anything that might be termed
    "official".

So yeah, you read it right.

Probably a sizeable chunk of the reason why the comercial trips are nearly
    double the cost of yours.

And there was me thinking you were just being and arsehole. You can
take all the romance out of it you know.

  5. Yes, probably. You have to have trust accounts for the money, which you
aren't allowed to touch until everyone's returned safely, and then
    there's the insurance question.

In some countries, if there's what they consider an organised group
tour, and somebody does something silly, guess who gets thrown in the
cells while they try to sort it out?

  6. I had a tour around last year, went out Swansea - Cork and back from
Dublin. Kate managed to meet up with one of the locals we'd had a beer
with in Bantry whilst in Sharm two weeks ago <small world>. There's a
    tedious trip report here

  9. My memories of biking round Ireland - being continously wet. It rained
(every day) hard enough to saturate just about everything. And the
leathers didn't dry out enough overnight so we were putting on clammy
damp leathers in the morning to go and ride in yet more rain :-(

Oh - and don't try to tour on a sportsbike with stiff suspension - the
    Irish roads are awful..

you're not wrong. I commuted for a couple of years pretty much every
    day from Bangor to Belfast.

It rained *every* day, sometimes on the way into work, sometimes on the
way home, but literally *every* day of the year.

I was thinking of a Norn Iron trip myself. Possibly a Stranrear to
Larne sometime and x country to Mayo via Antrim.

Who's near to that route ?

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Well I'm up for organising someone around that but most people around
here seem to be Annual Leave Pikeys.

I remember following Mr Bonwick with fluffycat on the back using his ears as
footpegs as they went TWA twice... the second time I really thought it was
going to go titsup.com, fairplay to fluffycat though she didn't even break
sweat by the time we got to the Cat & Fiddle.
