That grease nipple is of no use if the bolts holding the damper assembly
to the bulkhead shear, that's what happened to mine. I welded the damper
box to the bulkhead after replacing the bolts, I wasn't taking any
    chances.

Up until now, I'd always assumed that "trunnion" was a made up word.

If you'd ever owned a Moggy Minor you'd wish it was.

I had another problem with mine, in that the brake and clutch pedal
pivot on the same shaft which runs under the floor, which is also where
the brake master cylinder is. After a few years the shaft gets gummed up
with old grease and shit, so every time you apply the brakes the clutch
starts to disengage and when you depress the clutch the brakes slow the
car down and the brake lights come on. If you can learn to drive in a
car that does that then you deserve a full licence.

Any BMC era car seemed to have them. My Leyland van has them too. I
believe the old Sherpas were based on the then existing Cambridge running
    gear.

Yeah, but they're a piece of piss to sort. You could still get the
little wooden bearings - off the shelf - when I last wanted one.

Two of my old Morrises needed a quick tap on the brake pedal to rebuild
the brake pressure before making a proper application. Follow a
knackered Morris and watch the brake lights flash momentarily before they
    come on properly....

Horrible design, even if it did work quite well. They were fitted to the
Moggy Minor because they took up very little space. IIRC Sir Alec
Issigonis designed the engine bay and front suspension to accomodate a
flat 4 engine. As a cost cuting measure they went with the old sidevalve
Morris 8 engine that was already in production.
I never got round to fixing it. I wrote the car off three weeks after
    passing my test.
That was normal on just about every BMC/Leyland car I've ever owned.

The trunnion design was just plain crap. The slightest road grit getting
underneath the woefully inadequate rubber seal and the grease turned
into a very effective grinding paste on the trunnion threads.

Luckily, none that I know off ever sheared in a straight-ahead position,
they all happened at parking angles.

Crikey, that's certainly a new take on MM trunnion failure.
